Florida cross country, Friday and Saturday, September 25 and 26, 2026
Eighteen meets and more than 9,300 results, about 7,300 of them from Florida schools. The biggest Florida meet was Bale-N-Trail at Bartram Trail, where JP Strombeck of Fleming Island won the Elite boys' race, Bolles won the team title, and Avery Hartley beat Creekside's Eva Delaney by 1.5 seconds on the girls' side. Natalia Gaona-Zelaya of Wiregrass Ranch ran 17:34.6 at the Stampede Sprint and won by 86 seconds. Madison Muller won Lakewood Ranch by 88 seconds and is still unbeaten. Axel Sallault won West Orange in 15:23.9. Osceola of Seminole won both varsity races at the Todd Howsare Memorial.
In Huntsville, Alabama, Arabella Duffell of Lake Nona ran 17:33.5 and was second in a 271-runner Championship race, beaten only by a Tennessee runner. Lake Minneola's boys were third of 37 teams in the same meet. Those trips, and Gulf Breeze's Friday night in Mobile, are at the bottom with the other out-of-state results. The Florida meets are first.

Bale-N-Trail Championships, Bartram Trail High School, St. Johns
This year Bale-N-Trail had a new format. Fifteen invited teams per gender ran the Elite race, seven runners each, and everyone else raced by grade: 11th and 12th, 9th and 10th, and middle school. Eight races and more than 1,350 finishers, all on Bartram Trail's course.
Elite boys: Strombeck by 2.9 seconds, Bolles by 28 points
JP Strombeck (Fleming Island, Sr., 3A) had run 15:58.0 at Cecil Field and 16:42.8 at the Horse Park. On Saturday he ran 15:47.9, a personal best, and beat Bryce Motycka (Bartram Trail, Sr., 4A) by 2.9 seconds on Motycka's home course. Luke Janke (Fleming Island, Jr., 3A) was third, and Aidan Chandler (Bolles, Sr., No. 6 2A) was fourth, 0.2 seconds behind him. Eli Scharf (Creekside, Sr., 4A) was fifth and Jack Kline (Cornerstone Classical, Jr., No. 6 1A) sixth. Six runners inside 18.2 seconds.
Bolles 2A (No. 4 in Florida, No. 1 2A) put four in the top 11 and won with 41. Creekside 4A was second with 69, Fleming Island 3A third with 100, and Bartram Trail 4A fourth with 113. Our preview had Nease winning this race 23 to 61 on its Roy Griak times. That was never tested. Nease 4A (No. 2 in Florida, No. 1 4A) sent a different seven to the Elite race, led by Leyton Shaw in 17:33.4, and they were 11th with 287. The runners who took Nease to third at Roy Griak were in the 11th-12th grade race, where nine Nease boys crossed the line together between 18:57.3 and 18:58.0. That group included Matthew Ishee (Jr., No. 7 4A), Rishi Chopra (Sr., No. 8 4A), Joseph Morley and Charles Carlson. Nease did the same thing at the Buchholz Bobcats Classic on September 12.

Elite girls: Hartley by 1.5 seconds, Creekside by 43 points
Avery Hartley (Bartram Trail, So., No. 7 4A) won at home in 18:17.5. Eva Delaney (Creekside, So., 4A) was 1.5 seconds behind her. Her best before Saturday was 18:44.8. Her freshman teammate Emma Godfrey was third in 18:53.5, and Allison Austin (Atlantic Coast, So., No. 9 4A) was fourth. Lilly Potts (Beachside, Sr., 4A) was fifth.
Creekside 4A (No. 7 in Florida, No. 3 4A) won with 59, on Delaney, Godfrey and Ivey Edgell in the top six. Buchholz 4A was second with 102, Ponte Vedra 3A (No. 9 in Florida) third with 105, and Beachside 4A (No. 10 4A) fourth with 136. Bishop Kenny 3A (No. 3 in Florida) was on the Elite entry list, but its girls ran in the grade races instead.

The grade races and the middle school 3Ks
Bolles won the 11th-12th boys' race with 19 points. Liam Sumner won it in 16:45.2, and Bolles put six in the top 12. Creekside was second with 66, and Nease's group was third with 127. Sean Cunningham (Providence, Sr., No. 7 in Florida, No. 1 1A) ran this race as well, 134th in 21:25.0, stride for stride with a seventh-grade teammate. In the 9th-10th race, Maziar Mafinejad (Creekside, So.) won in 17:51.2 and Bishop Kenny beat Creekside for the team title, 67 to 69.
The girls' 11th-12th race was the closest team race of the day. Ponte Vedra won it with 75, Creekside was second with 76, Bolles third with 84, and Bishop Kenny fourth with 107. Olivia Stevens (Harvest Community, Jr., 1A) won the race in 20:30.8. Agatha Wigham (Palatka, Fr.) won the 9th-10th race in 21:09.0, and Episcopal 2A (No. 8 in Florida, No. 2 2A) won the team title with 39 over Bartram Trail's 61. Episcopal's Emily Monti was third in that race. Her ranked teammates Holland McKinney and Stella Krueger were 27th and 31st, in 23:18 and 23:19, well off their pace.
Colette Heffernan (No Excuses RC, 7th, No. 1 MS) won the middle school girls' 3K in 10:22.9, 49 seconds ahead of her teammate Amelia Flood (8th, No. 4 MS). No Excuses took four of the first five places and won with 18. Aidan Moylan (Imagine Town Center, 8th, No. 9 MS) won the boys' race in 10:13.4, 10 seconds ahead of Liam Chong (Beaches Chapel), and No Excuses won that team race too, 43 to Bolles' 73.
Stampede Sprint Invitational
Natalia Gaona-Zelaya (Wiregrass Ranch, Sr., No. 3 in Florida, No. 2 4A) has won all five of her races this year, and this was her fastest. She ran 17:34.6, 29 seconds under her previous best, and beat Emma Poekert (Cypress Creek, Jr., No. 7 3A) by 86 seconds. Only four Florida girls have run faster this season: Emma Balaban, Annabella Tomasic, Muller and Duffell. Blake Peifer (Steinbrenner, Sr.) was third. Wiregrass Ranch 4A won the team race with 53 over Aubrey Rogers 3A (78) and Cypress Creek 3A (88).
Jack Bronder (Steinbrenner, Sr., 4A) won the boys' race in 15:50.1, 10 seconds under the best he ran at North Port the week before. Ryder Dempsey (Geneva Classical, So.) was second in 15:57.2, and Wiregrass Ranch's Bogdan Anghel and Wade Pheffer were third and fourth. Wiregrass Ranch 4A (No. 10 4A) won with 49 over Steinbrenner's 56 and swept both JV races as well, the boys with a perfect 15.
The middle school races went to Noah Chandler (Tampa Bay HEAT, 8th) in 10:40.3 and Layne Schiebel (Httr Tornadoes, 7th) in 11:47.9. Tampa Bay HEAT won the boys' team race and the Tampa Bay Pirates won the girls'.
Lakewood Ranch XC Invite
Madison Muller (Riverview, Jr., No. 1 in Florida) won in 17:54.0, 88 seconds ahead of Kayla Hawk (Parrish, Jr.). That is four races and four wins, and her slowest winning time this year is 17:54.0. Isla Trunk (St. Petersburg, So.) was third. Lakewood Ranch 4A won the girls' team race with 62 over Riverview 4A (95).
Jeb Bremerman (Naples, So., 3A) won the boys' race in 16:02.2, 18.6 seconds ahead of Justin Garbowicz (St. Petersburg, Jr.). Naples 3A won with 59 over Lakewood Ranch 4A (70) and St. Petersburg 3A (90), and won the JV race too. Katelyn McIntyre (Nolan MS, 8th) won the girls' middle school 3K by 53 seconds, and Kai Curtis (Buffalo Creek MS, 8th) won the boys'.
West Orange XC Invitational
Axel Sallault (East Ridge, Sr., No. 3 in Florida, No. 1 4A) won by 26.6 seconds in 15:23.9, the second-fastest race of his season behind the 15:05.9 he ran at Lake Minneola. Maleik Lewis (Horizon, Jr., 4A) was second in 15:50.5, 31 seconds under his best. East Ridge's Jonahel Vazquez (So.) and Aubin Sallault (Jr.) were third and fourth, and East Ridge 4A won with 46 over Boone 4A (72).
Anne Vanos (Boone, Jr., 4A) won the girls' race in 18:45.2, 31 seconds under her best, and beat Abigayle White (Horizon, Sr.) by 9.4 seconds. Amyiah Hall (Lake Nona, So.) was third and Hortance Sallault (East Ridge, So.) fourth. Boone 4A (No. 8 4A) won with 41, with four in the top nine, over East Ridge (69) and Foundation Academy 1A (103). Boone won the boys' JV race too.
Todd Howsare Memorial
Osceola 3A (No. 8 3A in both) won the boys' and the girls' varsity races. The girls scored 29, with the freshmen Quynh Tollon and Luna Mehltretter second and third behind Katelin Wilcox. East Lake 3A was second with 77. The boys scored 46 on Sebastian Laviano (Jr.) second in 16:27.9, Duncan Mehltretter sixth and Stone Gildner tenth, over Dunedin 2A (No. 6 2A) with 71 and Palm Harbor University 4A with 72.
Katelin Wilcox (East Lake, Sr., No. 8 in Florida, No. 3 3A) won the girls' race by 49 seconds in 18:51.1, her fastest time since Cecil Field. Jacob Sackenheim (Robinson, Sr., 3A) won the boys' race in 16:20.5, 7.4 seconds ahead of Laviano. Isaiah Howdeshell (Largo, Sr., No. 6 in Florida, No. 4 3A) started and did not finish.
In the middle school boys' 3K, Drake Matyka (East Lake MS Academy, No. 1 MS) won by 71 seconds in 9:14.03. All 41 middle schoolers we can compare ran faster here than their best 3K anywhere else this season, most of them by more than a minute. So the time does not line up with 3K times from other courses. The margin does. Alexis Theuerkauf (YMCA Camp Cristina, 7th) won the girls' race by 38 seconds. Clearwater Fundamental and Palm Harbor MS won the team races.
Larry Wooten Invitational, Miami (Friday)
Braddock 4A (No. 5 in Florida, No. 4 4A) went 1-2-3 on Friday: Jacob Castanedo (Sr.) 16:58.1, Yanliet Gomezdelafe (So.) 17:06.1 and Ian Vicente (So.) 17:25.5. Braddock won with 23 over Columbus 4A (No. 6 in Florida) with 54. That is Braddock's second win over Columbus in a week, but Columbus ran without the seven who scored for it in the Spanish River Race of Champions. Its top finisher was Lucas Abreu, a freshman, fourth. Columbus's JV won its race with a perfect 15.
Teagan Thompson (Coral Reef, So.) won the girls' race in 20:58.1, and Coral Reef 4A won with 35 over Lourdes 3A (No. 7 3A) with 48.
STU Bobcat HS Invitational
Carrollton 2A (No. 5 in Florida, No. 1 2A) won with 24, putting four girls between second and sixth: Eva Martinez-Lejarza (Fr.), Antonia Beltran (So.), Paola De La Iglesia (Fr.) and Lauren Martinez-Lejarza (Fr.). Three of those four are freshmen, and Daniela Hernandez (Sr., No. 2 2A) was Carrollton's fifth scorer, ninth. Ransom Everglades 2A (No. 7 2A) was second with 58, and its freshman Julianna Hart won the race in 19:27.8.
Belen Jesuit 3A (No. 1 in Florida) won the boys' race with 26 without Marcelo Mantecon, Armando Cruz or Jack Michalak, who are not in any result we have from the weekend. Emilio Perez-Garcia (Gulliver Prep, Sr.) beat Belen's Liam Salom by 0.2 seconds for the individual win in 16:33.6. Gulliver Prep 2A (No. 2 2A) was second with 59.
Jensen Beach Fleet Feet Invitational
The host school won the boys' team race by one point. Jensen Beach 3A scored 41 and Jupiter 4A 42. Jupiter had four runners between sixth and ninth. Jensen Beach had Grant Belville second and Mason Galdys fourth. Elijah Arterburn (Atlantic Christian, Sr., No. 4 1A) won the race in 16:31.62, 4.1 seconds ahead of Belville.
Madelyn Fischer (Jensen Beach, Jr.) won the girls' race in 19:18.28, her best by 27 seconds, with Andi Laird (South Fork, So.) 3.5 seconds back. Jupiter 4A won the girls' team title with 61, and the Jensen Beach JV boys won their race with 19.
Weeki Wachee Invitational
Tavares won every high school team race that was scored. The varsity boys (No. 4 3A) scored 19: Liam Ilea (Jr., No. 9 3A) won in 16:24.8, and the freshmen Navid and Emiliano Lozano and the sophomore Nicholas Alvarez were second through fourth. The JV boys scored a perfect 15. The varsity girls (No. 9 3A) won with 36 over Trinity Catholic 2A (50). Lauren Murphy (Trinity Catholic, Jr.) won the girls' race in 19:42.6, 11.3 seconds ahead of Brianna Bergin (Carrollwood, Sr., No. 8 1A).
Lake Wales Invitational
Gabriel Harris (Lake Wales, Sr., No. 6 3A) won at home by 35.7 seconds in 16:11.0, and Lake Wales 3A won with 37 over Winter Haven 4A (53). Vanguard 3A, No. 10 in the state, finished seventh with six boys, none of them among its five fastest this season. Isabella Rios (Lake Region, Jr.) won the girls' race in 22:02.0, and Lake Region 3A beat Winter Haven 40 to 44.
Argonaut Invitational
Dominic Ferguson (Rocky Bayou Christian, Sr., No. 2 1A) won the boys' race in 16:17.3, 17.4 seconds ahead of Frederick Gunther (Pensacola Catholic, So., No. 8 2A). Fort Walton Beach 3A (No. 10 3A) won the team race with 68 over Navarre 4A (83). The Fort Walton Beach girls won too, 36 to Navarre's 56, and their freshman Mia Jucha won the race by 64 seconds in 20:16.4.
Run Florida XC Invitational
Logan Haley (Branford, Jr., No. 5 1A) won the high school boys' race over Luke Engels (Eastside, Sr., No. 9 2A), and Eastside 2A won the team title with 40. Natalie Kay (Oak Hall, 7th) won the girls' race, and Oak Hall 1A put six in the top nine and won with 19. The high school times from this meet are in the database as supplied, but they are not used in our rankings, so we have left them out here. The middle school races count as usual. Aliana Alvarez (Red Sea Running Club, No. 6 MS) won the girls' 3K in 11:39.0 and Warren Wilson (Sifted Sports, 8th) won the boys' in 10:34.2. Red Sea won both middle school team titles, the boys with a perfect 15.
Wildwood XC Meet
Belleview 3A went 1-2-3 in the boys' race behind Asher Inman (So.) in 17:05.62 and won with 17. Makya Rivenburg (Wildwood, 8th) won the girls' race by nearly two minutes in 21:25.27, and City of Life Christian won the girls' team race with 37.
More middle school racing
At the Volusia County Middle School Meet 2, Creekside Middle School swept both races, with Eden Smith (7th) winning the girls' two miles in 13:57.35 and Ezra McAlister (8th) the boys' in 12:30.34. At Greater Florida Athletic Conference Meet Four, Cornerstone Charter's Ava Miller and Wyatt Vose won both races, and Cornerstone Charter won the boys' team title. At the MRCC XC Meet, Danika Mylett (Pine School, 7th) and Dylan Leuck (Milers Running Club) won the 3Ks. At Jensen Beach, Brent Diaz (Kings Academy, 8th) won the boys' 3K in 11:08.65 and Averie Hyacinthe (Brevard HEAT, 6th) the girls'.
Florida on the road
On Twilight at PR'ville, John Hunt Park, Huntsville, Alabama
Ninety-eight schools from twelve states, three of them from Florida. Arabella Duffell (Lake Nona, Jr., No. 4 in Florida, No. 3 4A) was second in the girls' Championship race in 17:33.53, a personal best by five seconds. Addy Cotter of Baylor School, Tennessee, beat her by 8.5 seconds, and Duffell beat everyone else in a 271-runner field. Her time is the fourth-fastest by a Florida girl this year, 0.4 seconds behind Muller's best.
Lake Minneola 4A (No. 9 4A) was third of 37 teams in the boys' Championship race with 210, behind Florence, Alabama (171) and Lakeside DeKalb, Georgia (182). Quentin Thompson (Sr., No. 4 in Florida, No. 2 4A) led them in 15:32.67, 13th of 334, and was the first Florida finisher. Matthew Lydiard (21st), Jacob Kelly (27th) and Drew Sasson (34th) were all under 15:53. Crestview 3A was 18th in the Championship race with 520, led by Tucker Sheldon in 15:45.98, and its younger runners were 12th in the Rated race.
The results file we have covers Saturday's races. If other Florida teams ran in Huntsville, we do not have those results yet.
Azalea City Classic, Mobile, Alabama (Friday)
Gulf Breeze 3A won both varsity races on Friday. Owen Tucker (Jr.) won the boys' race in 15:52.3, Gulf Breeze put four in the top six, and it beat St. Paul's Episcopal of Mobile 32 to 43. Ashton Dahlem (Sr.) won the girls' race by 37 seconds in 18:46.7. The Gulf Breeze girls were fourth as a team, behind three Alabama and Mississippi schools.
What the weekend does to the rankings
The week 6 lists are next. The rule is the same as always: a loss stands until the two runners meet again. Here is what those lists will have to deal with.
Boys. Sallault won again. Thompson was the first Floridian in a 334-runner race in Huntsville, and no Florida runner beat him. Howdeshell did not finish at Todd Howsare. Cunningham's 21:25 and the Nease group's 18:57s were not races, and when Nease did the same thing at Buchholz we left its runners where they were. Strombeck beat Motycka, Chandler, Scharf and Kline at Bale-N-Trail and comes into the 3A picture. Bronder and Lewis both ran big personal bests. Ferguson beat Gunther by 17 seconds, but they are in different classes.
Girls. Muller and Gaona-Zelaya won, Duffell lost only to an out-of-state runner, and the three of them still have never raced each other. Five Florida girls have now run 17:34.6 or faster this season. Hartley beat Austin, who is two places behind her in 4A, so the order holds. Delaney, second to Hartley by 1.5 seconds, comes into the 4A picture. Julianna Hart beat Daniela Hernandez, the No. 2 girl in 2A, by 54 seconds at STU. Wilcox won by 49 seconds. Bergin lost to Murphy, who is in 2A, so the 1A list is not affected.
Teams. Bolles won the Elite boys' race and the 11th-12th race. Braddock beat Columbus again, but not Columbus's top seven. Osceola won both races at Todd Howsare. Dunedin, No. 6 in 2A, was second there. Tavares, Fort Walton Beach, Wiregrass Ranch and Carrollton all won. Creekside's girls won the Elite race over Ponte Vedra and Beachside. Ponte Vedra won the 11th-12th race by a point over Creekside. Lourdes, No. 7 in 3A, lost to Coral Reef 35 to 48 in Miami. None of the Run Florida XC Invitational high school races count toward the rankings.
Middle school. Heffernan beat Flood by 49 seconds. Moylan won Bale-N-Trail. Matyka won Todd Howsare by 71 seconds. Alvarez won the Run Florida XC Invitational 3K.
How we put this together
- Every result above comes from the official timing files, loaded into our results database: eighteen meets and more than 9,300 results, JV, middle school and elementary included, with every team score exactly as the timers published it.
- On Twilight at PR'ville and the Azalea City Classic were mostly out-of-state fields. Every school at PR'ville is tagged with its state, and out-of-state runners and teams are shown in the results but not ranked.
- Bale-N-Trail's timer also scored each grade race again by class year. Those are the same runners and the same times, so the database keeps the eight races and leaves out the extra scoring.
- All 41 middle schoolers at Todd Howsare who have run a 3K elsewhere this season ran faster there, 36 of them by a minute or more. The times are shown as run, and for that race we compare margins, not times.
- Six midweek meets from Thursday, September 24, are in the database and not written up here: the Chief XC Invitational, the Marathon meet, the Crystal River and Oak Park middle school meets, Lake Jackson Run 2 and the Osceola County elementary meet.
