Weekend Recap: Pre-State Is Off, Episcopal Wins JAC, Sallault and Thompson Roll, and LaBelle Takes the Sugar Run at Clewiston
Thursday through Saturday, October 8 to 10, meet by meet: with Pre-State canceled for Hurricane Isaias, Episcopal's girls won the JAC Invitational over Bishop Kenny and Nease as Jillian Jakab won the race, Axel Sallault and Quentin Thompson won at South Marion and Wildwood, Spanish River swept the individual titles at Snake Bite while Columbus won the boys' team race, Bolles was eighth in the Eastern States Championship at Manhattan, and LaBelle won the boys' title at the Clewiston XC Sugar Run Invite, with photos from Dr. Bob Cooke.

Colette Heffernan is unbeaten and the No. 1 middle school girl in Florida in any grade. The boys' top four project within four seconds of each other. The top five seventh-grade boys and girls in the state, from middle school 3ks and high school 5ks alike.

Spanish River Invitational Preview: A Course Gets Rick Rothman's Name, and We Ran All Eight Races on Paper
Palm Beach County names the South County Regional Park course for Rick Rothman on Saturday, and more than a hundred high school programs and nearly fifty middle school teams race on it over two days. We ran every race through the Race Simulator, split the way the meet splits them: middle school, 1A/2A, 3A/4A and the Race of Champions, using the meet's invite list. With Belen's varsity in Alabama, the ROC boys' race is Columbus and the host dead even on paper; five girls teams sit inside 51 points; Ransom or Belen in the middle school race; Winter Park and Martin County in the class races once the invites are gone.

A seventh grade girl ran faster than every boy at Cecil Field, and her club scored 51 points against the whole state. FLYRA middle school top 10s — boys, girls, and teams — after opening week.

A first-year meet on South Florida's most-raced course, a 5 p.m. start in late-August Miami, and a girls' race where the two favorites finished one point apart at Cecil Field. Only two of the 65 entries have raced in 2026.
