How the Florida Track Season Works

Florida track runs in two seasons. Indoor season goes from mid-January to early March, almost all of it in Gainesville at the Alachua County Sports and Events Center, the only indoor banked track in the state. College teams open there at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational, and high schoolers get meets like the Sunshine Showcase and the Florida High School Indoor Championships.

Outdoor season peaks from late March to May. The college relays come first: the FSU Relays in Tallahassee and the Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville both run high school meets alongside the college sections. In Jacksonville, UNF hosts the River City Relays, the East Coast Relays and the ASUN Championships at Hodges Stadium, which also holds the FHSAA high school state championships every May.

In South Florida, the Louie Bing Invitational and other Miami-Dade high school meets run at Nathaniel Traz Powell Stadium. Our guides to the Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar and Carter Park in Fort Lauderdale cover two more South Florida tracks.

Cross country takes over in the fall. The Florida cross country meet schedule lists upcoming meets through the FHSAA state championships, and our Florida cross country database has the results.
