Who competes at the Florida Relays?

The Florida Relays is two meets on one track. The high school meet is open entry, so any team can enter, but UF caps the number of entries in each event. The university and open meet is by invitation only. The 2026 results list 234 high school, college and club teams; the college side ran from Army West Point, Auburn and Tennessee to Akron and Alabama State, and North Florida came down from Jacksonville for its last regular-season trip to Gainesville.

Because high school and college heats share a schedule, a parent can watch a 4x400 and then see an NCAA 1500 a few minutes later. UF posts a separate high school meet information sheet and a university/open sheet each year, plus the full schedule a few days before the meet.

Tickets, parking and getting in

Tickets are general admission and re-entry is allowed with a valid ticket. In 2026 they were sold online in advance and at the ticket office on meet days, and the gates and ticket office opened one hour before the first event.

  • No spectator parking at Pressly Stadium. UF sends fans to Flavet Field (off Woodlawn Dr. between Stadium Rd. and Museum Rd.), Fraternity Row or the UF Law School Green Lot. Disabled parking is first come, first served with a valid placard.
  • Friday evening. After 4:30 p.m. on Friday, parking restrictions lift in every lot except the 24/7 ones.
  • Road closure. Woodlawn Dr. between Fraternity Dr. and SW 2nd Ave. closes to the public on both meet days, except for team drop-off and staff.
  • Bags and pets. Bags are inspected and clear bags are encouraged. Only service animals are allowed inside. UF is a tobacco-free campus.

Florida Relays history

UF coach Percy Beard started the Florida Relays in 1939, after the Southern Relays at Georgia Tech folded. The first meet drew 209 athletes: a university division of Florida, Alabama, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Vanderbilt, the University of Havana and Palm Beach Junior College, and nine high schools. It grew into a four-day meet with more than 3,000 high school, college and international athletes before moving to a two-day format on the first weekend of April in 2007.

The meet has run every year since 1939 except during World War II (1942 to 1946), in 2006, when construction around the track stopped it, and in 2020, when it was canceled. In 1959 UF unveiled what the school calls the first all-weather track surface in the world at the Relays. The current Mondo surface went down before the 2012 meet.
