Second at Hawks on the Hill behind Sallault; third at the Horse Park in 15:46.8, ahead of Seth, Watkins, Williams and Martin Fernandez. The only 4A boy who has beaten him since August is Sallault. Second.

Thirteenth of 334 in the Championship race at On Twilight at PR'ville in Huntsville in 15:32.7, with teammates Matthew Lydiard (15:37.6) and Jacob Kelly (15:42.6) right behind him, and Lake Minneola was third of 37 teams with 210 points. We did not put a number on the Huntsville course: the only Floridians who ran it and last November's state meet came from two teams, Thompson among them, and their readings are all over the map. The run is on the record, not in his figure. Second at Cecil Field in 15:16.0, third at the Horse Park, second to Sallault at Hawks on the Hill; that last result is why he is fourth and not third.

The Cecil Field result over Howdeshell, Olson and Michalak still holds; the Saturday result to Sallault is why he is fourth and not third.

Then 15:46.8 for third at the Horse Park, behind Mantecon and Cruz of Belen and ahead of Seth, Watkins, Williams and Fernandez, worth about 15:52 on a course that reads a shade fast. Seven of the nine other boys on this list have raced him and all seven finished behind him; Kiper and Rivera have not raced him. His season figure is 15:43, sixth in the class on the arithmetic, and on Sunday we let the arithmetic rank him. Sixth to second, on the correction at the top, behind Kiper on a Jim Ryun run worth the same 15:16.

Then 15:46.8 for third at the Horse Park out of 549, behind Mantecon and Cruz and ahead of Seth, Watkins, Williams and Fernandez, worth about 15:52 on a course that reads a shade fast. His season figure is 15:43, because the second race counts three times and the first once, and that figure had him fourteenth on Sunday. The figure is not the point. He has lost to two boys this fall, both from Belen, and he has beaten each of the four boys directly below him on the grass. Fifth, from fourteenth, behind Kiper on a Jim Ryun run worth the same 15:16 he ran at Cecil; those two have not met.

15:16.0 for second at Cecil Field on opening night, the third-fastest raw time by any Florida boy this fall, and then 15:46.8 for third at the Horse Park on Saturday, 22 seconds behind Cruz and six clear of Seth. That is a good race in a deep field, and on a course that runs about even it is a 15:50 run. Weighted the way the season is weighted, it lands sixth. He has beaten Seth, Watkins, Williams and Moss head to head and lost to nobody but Belen. One more 15:20 and he is back at the top of this class.

One race, still the best one: 15:16.0 for second at Cecil Field behind only Armando Cruz, a 1:13.6 improvement on his state time. He sat out week two. Lake Minneola is entered at the Florida Horse Park on Saturday, where Thompson was fifteenth a year ago, so the second data point on the biggest jump in the class finally arrives.

Held at three on one race, which is all he has run. His 15:16.0 for second at Cecil is a 1:13.6 improvement on the 16:29.6 he ran at state, where he was 32nd in 4A and our 47th-ranked returner. Lake Minneola is entered at the Horse Park, so the second data point is coming.

Second in the Cecil Field Boys Elite race in 15:16, behind only Armando Cruz of Belen Jesuit, and 73 seconds faster than the 16:29.6 that got him 32nd in 4A at state last fall. On a course where the boys' field opened dead even with its November fitness, that entire 73 seconds is real improvement, and it is the largest by any ranked runner in this class.

He beat Rishi Chopra by 23 seconds and Axel Sallault, the returning 4A runner-up, by 31, in the deepest race in Florida. Lake Minneola ranks fifth as a team on the back of it, with Jacob Kelly and Drew Sasson close behind him. Thompson takes the top spot over Jaxon Kiper by a tenth of a second on the board and by the quality of the field on the judgment.

The biggest jump by any ranked returner in Florida this weekend, by a wide margin. Thompson ran 16:29.6 at state last fall, which put him 47th on our returner list. He ran 15:16 for second at Cecil Field, a drop of 1:13.6. There is no course adjustment or heat allowance involved. He simply got a lot better, and Lake Minneola, already our projected third team in 4A, got better with him.
