We could not price the Raider Open course this week; the few girls who ran it and the state meet disagree too widely, so the run is on the record and not counted, and her 17:52.6 win at Wellen Park, worth about 17:40 at Cecil Field, still ranks her. Three starts, three wins, none of them close. First, where she was, and she and Gaona-Zelaya have still not raced.

The defending 4A champion won the Wellen Park Invitational out of 131 in 17:52.6, two minutes and three seconds ahead of the next girl, on a course that runs a little slow. By our measure it was the best race she has run, better than the 17:33.1 at North Port, which came on a course that hands time back. Two races, two wins by more than a minute and a half, and the No. 1 girl in Florida on the strength of a head-to-head win over Emma Balaban of IMG Academy last fall.

The defending 4A champion won the inaugural Wellen Park Invitational out of 131 in 17:52.6, two minutes and three seconds ahead of Sarasota's Annabella Cicilioni. Wellen Park ran a little slow, so by our measure this was the best race she has run, better than the 17:33.1 at North Port, which came on a course that hands time back. Two races, two wins by more than a minute and a half. She has not yet been in a race that made her work.

She goes to the top over a girl who ran 38 seconds faster on Saturday, and the reason is a race the two of them have already run. Muller and Balaban met at the Brooks XC Championships South at McAlpine Park last fall, and Muller beat her. Muller went on to finish 19th at the Brooks national championship, and she owns the faster track times. When two runners have settled it on the same course, that counts for more than two times run on different ones.

The champion opened, and how. Muller won the North Port Preserve Pursuit by 1:42.6 in 17:33.1, faster than the 17:37.7 that won her the state title and faster than anything any Florida girl has run this fall. Then the course rating arrives: North Port ran fast, by one of the cleanest measurements of the season, and leveled out the run is worth about 18:07.

So she is second in the class and third in the state, and the reasoning is the same in both places: defending champion in the biggest class, second-fastest returning time in Florida, and now a race in 2026, which is more than the girl above her here can say for week two. Take North Port at face value and she is first everywhere. The statewide article lays out the whole argument.

The 4A state champion opened at the North Port Preserve Pursuit and won by 1:42.6, running 17:33.1 — 4.6 seconds faster than the 17:37.7 that won her the title, and twenty seconds faster than anything else run in Florida this fall.

Then the course rating arrives. North Port graded 33.7 seconds fast against Cecil Field, off 27 girls, with the mean and median within a second of each other — one of the cleanest samples of week two, and the reading is corroborated on the boys' side, where the same course graded 43 seconds fast. Converted, Muller's run is worth 18:06.8, which is sixth on the raw board.

Third is a judgement, and here is the case for it. She is the defending champion in the largest class. She holds the second-fastest returning time in the state. She has now raced, which the girl ranked above her at the top of this list has not. And the four girls whose converted marks sit between hers and Duffell's are separated from her by three seconds, which is inside the noise of any offset on this page. Take North Port at face value and she is first by twenty seconds. Take it at its measured rating and she is sixth. We have split the difference and said why.

The defending 4A state champion, 17:37.7, the fastest returning mark in the class by 23 seconds, and she did not pin on a number. Riverview sent a junior varsity group to Lemon Bay; Muller was not in it, and her name does not appear in any result from the weekend.

The arithmetic puts her at 18:06.5 in August terms, which sorts her a second and a half behind Gaona-Zelaya. That gap is not a real distinction and nobody should pretend it is. The tiebreaker is that one of them raced. Muller may well be the best runner in this class — she was in November, and the burden of proof for a state champion should be light. It is not zero, and it will be settled the first weekend she runs.

The 4A state champion at 17:37.7, two-tenths off Tomasic and the second-fastest returning mark in the state. She sat out opening weekend. Like Will Moss on the boys' side, she is ranked on last November because last November is all anyone has, and she is the name most likely to force a rewrite the first time she pins a number on.
