Annabella Tomasic ran 17:24.0 at the Katie Caples Invitational, the second-fastest time by a Florida girl this fall, Emma Balaban won the Southern Showcase, Katherine Eudaly won North Port by 46 seconds, and the IMG and Bartram Trail girls who filled the bottom of last week's list ran slower in Huntsville and made room for two new names.
Florida girls cross country, through five weeks: August 21-September 19, 2026
The best race of the weekend by a Florida girl was in Jacksonville. Annabella Tomasic won the Katie Caples Invitational elite race in 17:24.0, 71 seconds ahead of Camila Giles, and only Emma Balaban's 17:14.1 at IMG is faster this fall. Bishop Moore beat Bishop Kenny by a point on the same afternoon. Tomasic is eighth, not higher, for a reason we will explain rather than hide: Lyla Hallick beat her at the Horse Park on September 5, Katelin Wilcox beat Hallick at Cecil Field in August, none of the three has met since, and a loss stands until they meet again.
Balaban won the Southern Showcase championship race in 17:45.2 by 31 seconds and IMG scored 34 points. Katherine Eudaly won the North Port Invite in 17:37.3 by 46 seconds, her fourth win in five starts. Madison Muller won the Raider Open in 17:35.2, on a course we could not price. The top five did not move.
Sydney Johnson, Avery Hartley and Rashida Reinhardt were sixth, seventh and tenth a week ago. All three ran in Huntsville. Reinhardt was fourth in 18:32.0 and beat Johnson, Johnson was sixth in 18:47.3, Hartley fourteenth in 19:01.6, and on a course that reads about 30 seconds fast for girls none of those runs held its place. Alba Antunez-Perez, who won the Spanish River Race of Champions by 50 seconds, and Mary Summers come in.
Every time is weighed against where it was run, using runners who raced both that course and last November's state meet, with Cecil Field as the yardstick. A runner is ranked on her whole season, with the most recent race counting most, and a race she won never counts against her. 1. Madison Muller, Riverview (Sarasota), Jr., 4A
Won the Raider Open in 17:35.2 out of 105, 55 seconds ahead of Emma Wilkinson. The Raider Open course is not rated this week: the nine girls who ran it and the state meet produce two readings 165 seconds apart, so the run is on the record and not priced, and her 17:52.6 win at Wellen Park still ranks her. Three starts, three wins. She stays above Balaban on the head-to-head that has ordered them since week 3; they have not met this fall.
2. Emma Balaban, IMG Academy, Jr.
Won the Southern Showcase championship race in 17:45.2, 31 seconds ahead of the field, in a 160-girl race, and IMG won the meet with 34 points. The course reads about 31 seconds fast for girls, so the run levels to 18:16, a win, and not counted; her 17:14.1 at the IMGA Summit ranks her and is still the fastest time by a Florida girl this fall.
3. Natalia Gaona-Zelaya, Wiregrass Ranch, Sr., 4A
Did not race. Four starts, four wins, the last of them Astronaut in 18:22.4 by 47 seconds, worth 17:41 leveled. Sits third on that figure; she has beaten Tomasic, Hallick, Summers and Mercer this season and lost to nobody.
4. Arabella Duffell, Lake Nona, Jr., 4A
Did not race. Won Cecil Field in 17:53.0 and St. Cloud in 17:38.5, and has beaten Hallick, Wilcox, Wilkinson and Vignier. Two weeks off are not held against her.
5. Katherine Eudaly, Plant, Jr., 4A
Won the North Port Invite elite race in 17:37.3 out of 144, 46 seconds ahead of Emma Poekert of Cypress Creek, one of the five fastest raw times by a Florida girl this year. North Port reads 40 seconds fast by the 95 girls who ran it and the state meet, so that run levels to 18:17 and, as a win, is not counted against her; she is ranked on her 18:40.3 at West Hillsborough. Four wins in five starts, and she beat Wilcox at Parker Valby.
6. Katelin Wilcox, East Lake, Sr., 3A
Did not race. Third at Cecil Field in 18:35.0 in August, one place ahead of Hallick, then wins at Seffner Christian in 19:15.9 and a second at Parker Valby behind Eudaly. On season figure alone she is sixteenth. She is sixth because she beat Hallick and the two have not met since, and Hallick beat Tomasic. That is the rule, applied the same way to everybody, and the day they meet the grass decides.
7. Lyla Hallick, Vanguard (Ocala), So., 3A
Won the Rockledge Raider Classic in 18:10.8 out of 76, 26 seconds ahead of Selah Vignier, her best time of the year in her fourth race. Second at the Horse Park in 18:22.5 ahead of Tomasic, second at Whispering Pines, fourth at Cecil Field behind Wilcox. Every run is between 18:10 and 18:37 on the clock. She holds seventh over Tomasic on the Horse Park result.
8. Annabella Tomasic, Bishop Moore, So., 3A
Won the Katie Caples Invitational elite race in 17:24.0 out of 99, 71 seconds clear of Camila Giles, and Bishop Moore won the team title by a point over Bishop Kenny. The Katie Caples course reads about 30 seconds fast for girls, so the run levels to 17:54; only Balaban, Muller, Gaona-Zelaya and Duffell have a better single race in Cecil Field terms. Third at the Horse Park behind Gaona-Zelaya and Hallick, and that result is the only thing between her and the top five.
9. Alba Antunez-Perez, Spanish River, Sr., 4A
Won the Spanish River Race of Champions in 18:03.2 out of 152, 50 seconds ahead of Nicole Lewis of Doral, in her first race of the season. Spanish River reads 33 seconds fast for girls by 115 runners, the deepest sample of the week, so the run is worth about 18:37 leveled. She ran 18:20.3 at state last November. One race, and it was a good one.
10. Mary Summers, Seven Rivers Christian, So., 1A
Has not raced since August 29: won Lecanto in 18:32.9 on opening weekend, then fourth at Whispering Pines in 18:39.3 behind Gaona-Zelaya and Hallick. A missed week never counts against anybody, and her two runs level to 18:29 and 18:45. She is tenth because three girls who were above her a week ago ran slower in Huntsville, not because of anything she did.
Just missed
Lainee Mercer (Springstead, Jr., 3A) is first out, three seconds behind Summers on figure. She won the Mitchell Mustang Invite in 18:53.7 on Saturday, a win and not counted, and was fourth at the Horse Park behind Tomasic. Emma Wilkinson (Lakeland Christian, Jr., 1A) was second to Muller at the Raider Open in 18:29.7, unpriced like Muller's run, and is twelfth. Eva McMenemy-Hoang (Viera, Sr., 4A) was fourth at Rockledge in 18:52.5 and Selah Vignier (West Shore, Jr., 2A) second there in 18:36.3; both are behind Hallick on the result. Rashida Reinhardt (IMG Academy, Fr.) was fourth in Huntsville in 18:32.0 and is fifteenth. Elise Brown (St. Thomas Aquinas, So., 4A) has not raced since King of the Hill. Sydney Johnson (IMG Academy, Jr.) was sixth at the Showcase in 18:47.3, behind Reinhardt, and drops from sixth to seventeenth. Camila Giles (Bishop Kenny, Jr., 3A) was second to Tomasic in 18:35.0. Avery Hartley (Bartram Trail, Sr., 3A) was fourteenth in Huntsville in 19:01.6, 48 seconds slower in Cecil Field terms than her August run, and drops out.
Method notes
- A head-to-head loss stands until the two runners meet again. Where results form a loop (A beat B, B beat C, C beat A), the most recent meeting decides, and a newer chain of results outranks an older direct one: there is no loop on this list, so the direct results stand: Wilcox over Hallick from Cecil Field, Hallick over Tomasic from the Horse Park.

- Almost every course this week reads fast against Cecil Field. Cecil Field was run in August heat and the anchor is last November's state meet, so five weeks of fitness and cooler evenings show up as negative readings everywhere. Raw times dropped across the state; leveled figures moved much less.
- A race a runner won never lowers her figure. Balaban's Showcase win, Eudaly's North Port win, Mercer's Mitchell win and Gaona-Zelaya's three earlier wins are listed and not counted against them.
- Out-of-state teams at the Southern Showcase are excluded. IMG Academy is an FHSAA Independent; its individuals are ranked and its team is named in the team post, not scored.
