#4 — 3A Girls Week 1
The other import. Hallick was 20th in 4A at state in 19:14.4 and transferred to Vanguard, and she ran 18:37.0 for fourth in the Cecil Elite race — two seconds behind Wilcox, head to head, in the same race. That is a 66-second improvement in November terms, as a sophomore, in the deepest field anybody in Florida faced.
She converts nine tenths of a second behind Lainee Mercer, which is not a gap, and she is ranked ahead of her anyway. The reason is where the two marks were run. Hallick was fourth in a race with Arabella Duffell, Avery Hartley and Katelin Wilcox in it; Mercer was second at Ragin' Storm behind one good runner and clear of everybody else by 26 seconds. Same converted time, different amount of proof.
Vanguard ranks seventh in 3A on a 3:21 spread, which makes Hallick the most valuable single runner on a team that badly needs a second one.
#10 — Overall Girls Week 1
Fourth at Cecil Field in 18:37, two seconds behind Wilcox, in the deepest field anybody in Florida faced this weekend. That is 37.4 seconds faster than her state run and it came in a Vanguard singlet for the first time, after a transfer from Ocala Forest. Hallick was 20th in 4A last November and our 35th-ranked returner, so this is a large move on one race. It is also the only kind of race that settles anything: she beat everyone in the state on Friday except the three girls ranked above her who were there.
