The FLYRA state meet runs four races. Here are the top 10 middle school boys and girls in each: Lomoriello and Motycka lead Public, Blumenberg and Roy lead Private, Parker and Underwood lead Charter, Destremps and Heffernan lead Club.

Florida middle school cross country top 10s by FLYRA division, week 9, season through October 19, 2026

The FLYRA middle school state meet on October 30 and 31 at Holloway Park runs four races for each gender: public school, private school, charter school and club. These are the top 10 in each, eighty runners in all. They come from the same season as our statewide top 10s, with the head-to-heads re-run inside each division, so a kid who is 25th in the state can see where they stand in their own race.

Everybody is listed under the team they have raced for most this fall. A club jersey puts a runner in Club, and a school jersey puts them in that school's division. Red Sea Running Club is Tavares Middle School. Some of these kids could go either way: Tommy Schulte, Maxwell Claypool, Joao Cardoso, Emily Del Mazo and Jasmarie Hernandez have each raced for a club and a school this fall. Their division is set the day their program enters state.

Middle schoolers who race high school 5ks for their school are in, and they lead three of the eight lists. The FLYRA meet is open to them, and whether they come down for it is their call.

About the times: every runner is listed with the time they actually ran, and the number in parentheses is what that run projects to at the state meet. For a 5k, it is the 3K we project from it. When two runners in the same division have met since mid-September, the finish decides. When results disagree, the most recent ones decide.

Boys Public School Top 10

1. Luke Lomoriello, Hobbs Middle School, 8th grade - 10:17.3 at Jim Ryun (projects 9:39.8)

2. Liam Jopling, Ruckel Middle School, 8th grade - 10:00.9 at Kristine Lynn (projects 9:52.7)

No. 9 on the statewide list. Won Kristine Lynn on September 19 in 10:00.9 and the Okaloosa County championship on Thursday, 10:59.1 for two miles. Sixth in the public school race at state last year.

5. Cael Rusmisel, Ruckel Middle School, 8th grade - 10:37.3 at Nights of Thunder (projects 10:29.0)

Second to Jopling at the Okaloosa County championship, 11:30.6 for two miles, and at Kristine Lynn and Nights of Thunder.

Ran 17:49.0 at New World, four places behind Deptula. His 19:09.8 at South Fork projects best. Last week he was on the club list. South Florida HEAT entered state last year as a private program, which is where our team lists have it, so he is listed here now.

Next up: Kaden Webb (Carrollwood Day School). Benjamin Hidalgo of St. Timothy won the third ACC meet on October 16, but that course ran short, so it counts for finishing order only.

Boys Charter School Top 10

1. Javier Parker, Doral Academy, 8th grade - 16:56.1 for 5K at Pine Crest (projects 9:30.5)

No. 2 on the statewide list. Ran 16:55.0 at New World and 16:46.9 at Snake Bite, and won the middle school race at Spanish River in September.

His 18:11.5 in a varsity 5k at Dr. Garcia in early September is still his best run. His 3Ks since then, ninth at Spanish River behind Avila and 11:09.5 at Scheck Hillel on October 8, trail the boys above him. When results disagree we go with the most recent ones, which is why he drops from ninth statewide last week.

How we ranked them

  • Florida middle schoolers only, grades 6 through 8, every middle school race in the results database through October 19, with two-mile, 2.1-mile, 3,200-meter and 2,900-meter races converted to 3K. Fifth graders are on the elementary lists only.
  • Middle schoolers who race high school 5ks are in. Each 5k is leveled for its course, then turned into a 3K figure using the middle schoolers who have raced both distances this fall. A kid with both keeps the better one.
  • Division: the team a runner has worn most this fall. A club is Club, a school is its division, and a program's own division at last year's state meet stands where it raced one. Schools new to our results were placed by school type, district schools Public and parish schools Private. That is our classification, not FLYRA's.
  • Head-to-heads are re-run inside each division. The most recent meeting puts the winner directly above the loser until they meet again, and meetings from September 12 and earlier no longer bind. When results disagree, the most recent ones decide: a runner who has never raced the one ranked above, and whose latest race projects better, moves up past them. The statewide list applies head-to-heads among its top 20, so a division list can order two runners differently when the result that separates them involves a runner outside that group.
  • Some races count for finishing order only. Oak Park, the Todd Howsare middle school race, the third Volusia County meet and the first and third ACC meets ran short or read far faster than anywhere else. The 1.5-mile races at the Gold Coast conference meet and the ACC JV races are too short to project to 3K.
  • Only 2026 races count. A runner who has not raced this fall is not ranked.

Statewide: week 9 middle school top 10s. Teams: team top 10s by division. Every result is in the Florida XC results database.
