Saturday's FLYRA middle school state meet at Holloway Park runs eight championship 3Ks. Here are the 10 entered runners to watch in each: Motycka, Heffernan, Underwood and Sarcos lead the girls, Matyka, Destremps, Parker and Claypool the boys.

FLYRA middle school state championship preview, Saturday, October 31, 2026, Holloway Park, Valrico

Eight championship races, all 3K, starting at 8 a.m. Saturday: club, public school, charter school and private school, for girls and for boys. These are the 10 entered runners we expect up front in each one, eighty in all. Every name on these lists is on the MileSplit entry list for that race as of Thursday morning, so the division is the race the runner entered.

The open 3Ks are Friday at 5 and 5:30 p.m. and are not previewed here. A runner can race only one of the two.

Some of the best middle schoolers in the state are not entered in a championship race, mostly kids who have raced the high school varsity all fall: Zamari Blumenberg, Jeremy Och, Ryan Danton, Alejandro Sancerni, Sutton Bolitho and James McDonald for the boys, Charlotte Roy, Taylor Geraghty, Esther Dobbin, Kylie Cook and Kaitlyn Conboy for the girls. If they are added, the lists change.

About the times: each runner is listed with a time they actually ran, and the number in parentheses is what that run projects to on a standard 3K. For a 5k or a two-mile, it is the 3K we project from it. When two runners have met since mid-September, the finish decides, and when results disagree, the most recent ones decide.

How we picked them

  • Entrants only: the MileSplit entry list for each championship race, pulled Thursday, October 29. Each runner is in the race they entered, which is not always the team they have raced for most.
  • Every Florida middle school race in the results database this fall, with two-mile, 2.1-mile and 3,200-meter races converted to 3K. High school 5ks count too: each is leveled for its course, then turned into a 3K figure using the middle schoolers who have raced both. A runner keeps their best figure.
  • Head-to-heads since September 12 decide order inside each race, and the most recent meeting stands. When results disagree, the most recent ones decide.
  • Two runners who were both on our week 9 division lists keep that order unless the one moving up has raced since.
  • Some courses read fast or slow against everything else those runners have done. The OCMSAC championship (October 22) and the Lee County South Region meet (October 20) are scored at their full reading, and the first ABCC meet counts for finishing order only. Oak Park, the Todd Howsare race, the third Volusia County meet and the first and third ACC meets are order-only, as all season.
  • Only 2026 races count. A runner who has not raced this fall is not ranked.

Teams: our week 9 team top 10s by division. Every result is in the Florida XC results database.
