Florida's Top Tenth-Grade Cross Country Runners: Boys and Girls Top 10

Florida tenth graders, cross country season through September 22, 2026

Three of the top ten girls in Florida are sophomores. Annabella Tomasic of Bishop Moore won the Katie Caples Invitational on September 19 in 17:24.0, the second-fastest 5k by a Florida girl this fall. Lyla Hallick of Vanguard and Mary Summers of Seven Rivers Christian are the other two on our week 5 statewide girls top 10.

The boys are led by Douglas Seth of Flagler Palm Coast, eighth on our week 5 statewide boys top 10. He ran 15:20.7 at the Southern Showcase in Alabama, seven seconds ahead of Niceville's Bryant Olson, the No. 2 sophomore. Six more sophomore boys have run under 16 minutes this fall.

This is the second of two lists for high school underclassmen. The freshmen are in our ninth-grade top 10s. We use data and judgment, and we will miss one or two along the way.

About the times: every runner is listed with a time they actually ran. The number in parentheses is what we think that run is worth on the Cecil Field course in Jacksonville, the same scale as our weekly high school rankings, so a fast course and a slow course can be compared. When two ranked runners have raced each other, the finish decides it, and a loss stands until they meet again.

Tenth Grade Boys Top 10

1. Douglas Seth, Flagler Palm Coast 4A - 15:59.5 at the Spikes & Spurs Classic (15:31.7)

He won the Spikes & Spurs Classic in August out of 202, was fourth of 549 at the Florida Horse Park Invitational, and ran 15:20.7 for 13th of 250 at the Showcase. He is third in 4A and eighth statewide. He beat Olson at the Showcase, their only meeting.

2. Bryant Olson, Niceville 4A - 16:07.8 at the Pace Patriot Invitational (15:28.9)

Fifth of 354 in the elite race at Cecil Field Summer Classic in 15:44.0, then wins at the Eagle Invitational at Pine Forest and the Pace Patriot Invitational, and 15:27.6 at the Showcase. He is sixth in 4A. He beat Reed Hagen, Trevor Berquist, Dominic de Armas and Matteo Kirwan at Cecil Field and Frederick Gunther at Pace.

3. Reed Hagen, Fort Myers 3A - 16:26.6 at the Fort Myers XC Invite (15:22.7)

He won the Fort Myers XC Invite out of 233 on a slow course, then ran 15:30.3 for second of 184 at the North Port Invite on September 19, nine seconds ahead of Jeb Bremerman. His only loss to a sophomore is to Olson at Cecil Field.

4. Ryder Dempsey, Geneva Classical Academy (Lakeland) - 16:30.3 at the Lake Region Invitational (15:56.9)

Third of 175 at the Lake Region Invitational, fifth of 276 at Jim Ryun Invitational, and wins at Frostproof and the SSAA championship on September 19. Geneva Classical runs in the SSAA, not the FHSAA. He has not raced anyone above him on this list.

5. Jeb Bremerman, Naples 3A - 16:44.3 at the Fort Myers XC Invite (15:40.4)

He won the Lehigh Invite out of 241 in August, was third at Fort Myers, and ran 15:39.0 for fifth at North Port. Hagen beat him in both of those races.

6. Trevor Berquist, Vanguard (Ocala) 3A - 16:02.3 at the Rockledge Raider Classic (16:09.8)

Second of 104 at the Rockledge Raider Classic on September 18. He was 18th at the Horse Park in 16:15.2, ahead of Dominic de Armas and Yanliet Gomezdelafe. Dylan Ciardi beat him there by three seconds, but de Armas has since beaten Ciardi, and the most recent result decides it.

7. Dominic de Armas, Belen Jesuit (Miami) 3A - 15:57.0 at the Southern Showcase (16:22.5)

He was 36th of 250 at the Showcase, 22 seconds ahead of Ciardi. He was 33rd at Cecil Field and 24th at the Horse Park, where Berquist beat him.

8. Dylan Ciardi, Flagler Palm Coast 4A - 16:12.3 at the Florida Horse Park Invitational (16:17.5)

Seth's teammate was 15th of 549 at the Horse Park, ahead of Berquist, de Armas and Gomezdelafe, and third at Spikes & Spurs. He was 62nd at the Showcase, behind de Armas.

9. Yanliet Gomezdelafe, Braddock (Miami) 4A - 15:58.5 at the Spanish River Invitational (16:26.3)

Seventh of 199 in the Race of Champions at the Spanish River Invitational on September 18. At the Horse Park he was 30th, behind Ciardi, Berquist and de Armas.

10. Frederick Gunther, Pensacola Catholic 2A - 16:57.2 at the Pine Forest Invitational (15:55.4)

Five races, including a win at the Pine Forest Invitational in August and third of 217 at the Daphne Invitational in Alabama on September 19 in 15:52.8. He was seventh at the Gulf Coast Stampede. Olson beat him twice. He is eighth in 2A.

Next up: Matteo Kirwan (Circle Christian, 1A), who won the Bulldog Invitational on September 19; Aidan Alam (McKeel, 2A), second at Land O' Lakes; Armaan Sharma (Bolles, 2A); Lucian Burns (Marathon, 1A), second in the 1A-2A race at Spanish River in 16:18.7; and Lachlan Bryniarski (Vanguard, 3A), third at Rockledge.

Tenth Grade Girls Top 10

1. Annabella Tomasic, Bishop Moore (Orlando) 3A - 17:24.0 at the Katie Caples Invitational (17:53.8)

She won the Katie Caples Invitational out of 99. Holland McKinney was fourth in 18:56.0 and Eva Delaney sixth. At the Horse Park she was third at the Florida Horse Park Invitational in 18:28.4, six seconds behind Hallick. Placing her ahead of Hallick is our call after Katie Caples, the same one we made in our week 5 3A list. She is sixth statewide.

2. Lyla Hallick, Vanguard (Ocala) 3A - 18:10.8 at the Rockledge Raider Classic (18:18.0)

Four races: fourth at Cecil Field, second at Whispering Pines Invitational, second at the Horse Park ahead of Tomasic, and a win at the Rockledge Raider Classic in 18:10.8 on September 18. She has beaten Summers, Tanenbaum, Brown, Austin, Delaney, Stam and McKinney. She is seventh statewide.

3. Mary Summers, Seven Rivers Christian (Lecanto) 1A - 18:32.9 at the Lecanto Invitational (18:29.3)

She won the Lecanto Invitational and was fourth at Whispering Pines, behind Hallick. She is No. 1 in 1A and tenth statewide.

4. Brooke Pelkey, IMG Academy (Bradenton) - 18:46.8 at the IMGA XC Summit Challenge (18:55.5)

Sixth at the IMGA XC Summit Challenge, then 18:54.1 for ninth of 160 at the Showcase, ahead of Avery Hartley and teammate Brooklyn Brown. That Showcase result is the most recent race between any two girls in this part of the list, so she sits above Hartley.

5. Avery Hartley, Bartram Trail (St. Johns) 4A - 18:13.0 at the Cecil Field Summer Classic (18:13.0)

Second of 343 at Cecil Field on opening night, ahead of Hallick, Tanenbaum, Brown and Austin. She was 14th at the Showcase, behind Pelkey.

6. Emma-Claire Tanenbaum, Chiles (Tallahassee) 3A - 18:48.0 at the Cecil Field Summer Classic (18:48.0)

Sixth at Cecil Field, two seconds ahead of Elise Brown and eight ahead of Allison Austin. She was seventh at the Horse Park. She is sixth in 3A.

7. Elise Brown, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale) 4A - 19:15.7 at King of the Hill (18:48.5)

She won King of the Hill Invitational out of 239 on September 10. At Cecil Field she was seventh, behind Tanenbaum and ahead of Austin.

8. Allison Austin, Atlantic Coast (Jacksonville) 4A - 18:56.0 at the Cecil Field Summer Classic (18:56.0)

Ninth at Cecil Field and second of 163 at the Buchholz Bobcats Classic. She was one second ahead of Eva Delaney at Cecil Field. Hartley, Brown and Austin run in that order on our week 5 4A list too.

9. Sofie Stam, Bolles (Jacksonville) 2A - 19:20.0 at the Cecil Field Summer Classic (19:20.0)

One race, 21st of 343 at Cecil Field. She is fifth in 2A, two places ahead of Holland McKinney, and a missed meet does not count against her.

10. Holland McKinney, Episcopal (Jacksonville) 2A - 18:56.0 at the Katie Caples Invitational (19:25.8)

Fourth of 99 at Katie Caples on September 19, two seconds ahead of Eva Delaney, who beat her at the Horse Park. The Katie Caples result is the newer one.

Next up: Eva Delaney (Creekside, 4A), sixth at the Horse Park in 18:44.8, ahead of Tanenbaum, but behind Austin at Cecil Field and McKinney at Katie Caples; Brooklyn Brown (IMG Academy), fourth at the IMGA Summit; Ana Cecilia Maia Menard (Sunlake, 4A), second at Nature Coast; Ivey Edgell (Creekside, 4A); and Shynah Collins (Dillard, 3A).

How we ranked them

• Tenth graders only: Class of 2029, from the result files and last fall's state meet file. We checked every runner's grade against every meet they ran.
• Every 5k is leveled for how that course ran, the same way as our weekly lists, and the order starts from the same board as our week 5 rankings. Where a runner is already placed on a published week 5 list, that order holds here too.
• A head-to-head loss stands until the two runners meet again. When results go in a circle, the most recent race decides it. A missed meet is never held against anyone.
• Results through September 22. Meets outside Florida count only for Florida runners.

Rematches will move these lists. Tomasic and Hallick have not raced since the Horse Park. Hagen and Olson have not raced since Cecil Field. The freshmen are in our ninth-grade top 10s, the younger kids are in our eighth-grade, seventh-grade and sixth-grade lists, and every result is in the Florida XC results database.
