Will Moss ran 15:57.0 for second at Katie Caples, Adrian Iziliaev beat Kayaan Ghaffar by a second in the Spanish River Race of Champions and jumps from ninth to third on a chain of results, and Aaron Ches, who has started twice for Bolles without finishing, comes off the projected list, so Luke Engels and Aidan Alam are ninth and tenth.
Florida Class 2A boys cross country through five weeks: August 21-September 19, 2026
Noah Carpenter of Nature Coast, a senior, stays first. He won his own Shark Invitational on Saturday in 16:20.5, four seconds ahead of Collin Langston of Sunlake 4A, on a course that reads very fast; a win never lowers a figure, so his 16:16.8 from Whispering Pines still ranks him. Will Moss of Montverde Academy, a senior, was second at the Katie Caples Invitational in 15:57.0, four seconds behind Andrew Sides of Buchholz 4A, and stays second. The two have not met.
The move is in the middle. Adrian Iziliaev of Gulliver Prep, a senior, was fifth in the Spanish River Race of Champions in 15:54.8, one place and a second ahead of his teammate Kayaan Ghaffar, a junior. Ghaffar beat Brantley Rigdon of Bolles at the Horse Park, and Rigdon beat Aidan Chandler of Bolles there, so the chain runs Iziliaev, Ghaffar, Rigdon, Chandler. Chandler beat Iziliaev at the Horse Park, and that older direct result gives way to the newer chain; that is the rule, and it holds until any two of them meet again. Frederick Gunther of Pensacola Catholic, a sophomore, has run four races in the Panhandle and met none of them, so he sits sixth on figure.
Michael Gomez of FAU High, a senior, won the Spanish River 1A-2A race in 16:13.3. Aaron Ches, who was ranked at Episcopal on last November's state time, has started twice for Bolles this fall and has not finished either race; he comes off the list until he does. Luke Engels of Eastside, a senior, and Aidan Alam of McKeel, a sophomore, are ninth and tenth. Data and judgment, and we will miss somebody.
A runner is ranked on his whole season, with the most recent race counting most, and a race he won never counts against him. As always, this is data plus judgment, and we will miss somebody along the way. A (P) next to a name means that runner has not opened yet and we are going on last November. 1. Noah Carpenter, Nature Coast, Sr.
Won the Nature Coast Shark Invitational on Saturday in 16:20.5 out of 98, four seconds ahead of Collin Langston of Sunlake 4A. The course reads very fast against Cecil Field, so the run is listed and not counted; his 16:16.8 for fourth at Whispering Pines on August 29, behind Axel Sallault of East Ridge 4A, Liam Ilea of Tavares 3A and Skylar Manatt of Cypress Creek 3A, is worth about 16:03 and ranks him. Two races, two top-four finishes, one win. He has not met anybody in the class, and first is on figure.
2. Will Moss, Montverde Academy, Sr.
Second at the Katie Caples Invitational elite race in 15:57.0 out of 101, four seconds behind Andrew Sides of Buchholz 4A and seven ahead of Gabriel Harris of Lake Wales 3A. Katie Caples reads about 14 seconds fast for boys, so the run is worth about 16:11 at Cecil Field, next to his 16:00.2 for eighth at the Horse Park two weeks earlier. At the Horse Park he beat Ghaffar, Rigdon, Chandler and Iziliaev, and none of them has beaten him since. Second for a second week, behind Carpenter on figure; the two have not met.
3. Adrian Iziliaev, Gulliver Prep, Sr.
Fifth in the Spanish River Race of Champions on Friday in 15:54.8 out of 199, one place and a second ahead of his teammate Ghaffar, on a course that reads about half a minute fast, worth about 16:23 at Cecil Field. Two weeks earlier he was 26th at the Horse Park in 16:28.3, behind Moss, Rigdon and Chandler. Ninth to third on Friday's result and the chain it starts: he beat Ghaffar, Ghaffar beat Rigdon at the Horse Park, Rigdon beat Chandler there. Chandler's Horse Park win over him is older than that chain, and the newer result decides.
4. Kayaan Ghaffar, Gulliver Prep, Jr.
Sixth in the Spanish River Race of Champions in 15:55.7, a second behind Iziliaev, after 16:10.5 for 14th at the Horse Park, where he beat Rigdon by two places and Chandler by six. Two races, both inside the top fifteen of a big field, and a season figure that is fourth in the class. Fourth for a second week: above Rigdon and Chandler on the Horse Park, below his teammate on Friday. The Gulliver pair go head to head again soon enough.
5. Brantley Rigdon, Bolles, Jr.
Ran the adidas XC Challenge in North Carolina on Friday with Bolles; that file is not in the pool yet, and nothing here depends on it. He is ranked on 16:04.0 for 19th at Cecil Field and 16:12.6 for 16th at the Horse Park, the best one-two of any 2A boy this fall. At the Horse Park he beat Iziliaev, Chandler, Barragan and lost to Moss and Ghaffar. Third to fifth without losing a race: Ghaffar beat him in Ocala, and Iziliaev's win over Ghaffar on Friday put both Gulliver boys above him.
6. Frederick Gunther, Pensacola Catholic, So.
Did not race. Four races in the Panhandle, all rated: won Pine Forest on August 22 in 16:57.2 out of 69, 40 seconds clear; third at Pine Forest a week later in 16:32.1; fifth at Pace in 16:50.1 on a course that reads slow, worth about 16:11; seventh at the Gulf Coast Stampede in 16:37.9, one place behind Isaiah Manderson of Pensacola Christian 1A. A sophomore, and the most-raced boy on this list. He has not met anybody in the ten, so sixth is on figure, and the chain above him is the only reason he is a place lower than a week ago.
7. Aidan Chandler, Bolles, Sr.
Ran the adidas XC Challenge in North Carolina with Bolles on Friday; that result is not loaded yet. Twentieth at the Horse Park in 16:18.5, ahead of Iziliaev in 26th, after 16:28.0 for 38th at Cecil Field. Sixth to seventh on the rule: Rigdon and Ghaffar beat him at the Horse Park, Iziliaev beat Ghaffar on Friday, and a newer chain outranks his older direct result over Iziliaev. He gets it back the day he beats any of the three.
8. Michael Gomez, FAU High, Sr.
Won the Spanish River 1A-2A race on Friday in 16:13.3 out of 379, five seconds ahead of Lucian Burns of Marathon 1A, and the win is not counted against him. Third at Pine Crest in 16:22.8 behind Martin Fernandez of Doral 4A and Elijah Arterburn of Atlantic Christian 1A; won the Kings Academy Invitational in 17:13.9 on a course we could not price. Two wins in three starts, and the Pine Crest run is the one that ranks him. Seventh to eighth as Iziliaev went past.
9. Luke Engels, Eastside, Sr.
Did not race. Third at the Buchholz Bobcats Classic on September 12 in 16:27.3, the same time as Evan Kirby of Fletcher 4A and beaten on the lean, nine seconds behind Logan Haley of Branford 1A; Buchholz reads a shade fast, so the run is worth about 16:39. He opened with 16:33.0 for 49th at Cecil Field, where Rigdon and Chandler beat him and he beat Armaan Sharma and Lawson Phillips. Ninth, from eleventh: Alam's Mitchell run leveled slower than his, and the two have not met.
10. Aidan Alam, McKeel, So.
Second at the Mitchell Mustang Invite on Saturday in 16:45.4, seven seconds behind Matthew Hood of Palm Harbor University 4A, on a course that reads fast, so the run is worth about 17:04 at Cecil Field. His 16:27.9 for second at Land O' Lakes and 16:46.8 for fourth at Lake Region are the runs that carry him, and the three together leave him two seconds behind Engels. Back in at tenth after a week out, and he has met nobody on this list.
Just missed
Armaan Sharma (Bolles, So.) is first out, on 16:44.0 from Cecil Field, where Rigdon, Chandler and Engels beat him; Bolles' North Carolina race is not loaded. Lawson Phillips (Florida High, So.) ran 16:50.0 at Cecil Field and won the Yellow Jacket meet on a course we could not price. Vincent Barragan (Bolles, Jr.) was 49th at the Horse Park in 16:46.7 behind all five of the Bolles and Gulliver boys on this list. Emilio Perez-Garcia (Gulliver Prep, Sr.) was 23rd in the Spanish River Race of Champions in 16:35.6 after 16:36.6 at the Horse Park, two races that agree.
How we ranked them
- Courses do not all run the same speed, so we do not compare raw times. Cecil Field is the yardstick; for other meets we use runners who raced both that course and last year's state meet to work out what a time was worth.
- A runner is ranked on his whole season, weighted toward the most recent race: this week counts five times, last week four, week three three times, week two twice, opening weekend once. A race he won is never allowed to lower that figure.
- A head-to-head loss stands until the two runners meet again, whatever either has run elsewhere since. Where results form a loop, the most recent meeting decides and a newer chain of results outranks an older direct one. A real result within a few seconds of a projection outranks the projection.
- Runners who have not opened are ranked on last November and marked (P). A missed week is never held against anyone.
- Grades and classes are 2026-27, resolved against the FHSAA classification documents.
- Aaron Ches, a junior on last year's Episcopal returner list, started for Bolles at Cecil Field and the Horse Park and did not finish either race. He is not projected at Episcopal any longer and enters this list the day he finishes one.
- The chain in the middle of this list is the rule, not a call: Iziliaev beat Ghaffar at Spanish River on September 18, Ghaffar beat Rigdon and Rigdon beat Chandler at the Horse Park on September 5. Chandler beat Iziliaev at the Horse Park, and that older direct result gives way to the newer chain. Any meeting among the four resets it.
- Bolles ran the adidas XC Challenge in Cary, North Carolina, on Friday. That file is not in the pool yet; Rigdon and Chandler are ranked on Cecil Field and the Horse Park, and nothing on this list depends on it.
- Nature Coast and Kings Academy: Carpenter's win on his home course reads very fast and is listed, not counted; Gomez's Kings Academy win is on a course we could not price. Neither run moves either boy.
