They did not enter a meet. Not Pine Forest, forty minutes away and on their own side of the state; not anywhere. So the number one team in Class 1A is a team nobody has seen since November.

The projection is still the best one in the class by a real margin, and the reason is the spread. A 1:15.8 gap from one to five is the tightest returning pack in 1A, and it is built on five runners who were all inside 17:54 at a state meet — not on one star and four hopefuls. Three of the five are seniors.

The honest caveat is the one the method forces: Pensacola Christian gets no credit for a summer, and neither is it charged for one. Maclay beat this projection on the course that sets the baseline while actually running. If Pensacola Christian opens in September within twenty seconds of these marks, they are the clear favorite. If they open thirty seconds off, they are third.

Third a week ago on the Pine Forest run, first now on the Horse Park one. Isaiah Manderson ran 16:28.4 there, more than a minute better than his Pine Forest time, and Moses Peterlevitz, Carson Ohman and Walter Goncalves all took 20 to 50 seconds off theirs. The 1:05 spread is the fourth-tightest of any raced team in the class. They beat Maclay by 59 points on the same course on the same day, and that is why they are here.

Won the Daphne Invitational at Historic Blakeley State Park in Alabama with 43 in a 25-team field, the first team win of the year: Isaiah Manderson first in 15:42.0, Carson Ohman fifth in 16:08.1, Jed Fears eighth in 16:17.5, Walter Goncalves eleventh in 16:32.8, Moses Peterlevitz 18th in 16:50.4. Five inside 1:08.5, and Spanish Fort was the closest team at 143. Blakeley reads about a minute fast for boys, so the leveled times sit close to the Gulf Coast Stampede figures, where they were second with 92 a week earlier, and a meet a team won is never counted against it. A 17:23.0 average, the best in the class. First for a fifth week, and the gap to second in the virtual race is 45 points.
