Gaona-Zelaya won Astronaut by 47 seconds and moves past Duffell to second, Eva McMenemy-Hoang of Viera ran 19:09 behind her in her first result and is sixth, and Allison Austin drops out.
Florida Class 4A girls cross country through four weeks: August 21-September 12, 2026
Natalia Gaona-Zelaya of Wiregrass Ranch won the Astronaut Invitational in 18:22.4 by 47 seconds, her fourth win in four starts, worth about 17:41 on a slow course, and moves past Arabella Duffell to second in the class. Madison Muller, Duffell, Katherine Eudaly and Avery Hartley did not race. Eva McMenemy-Hoang of Viera ran 19:09.9 for second at Astronaut in her first result of the season, beat the 2A state champion by 21 seconds, and is sixth on one race. Elise Brown of St. Thomas Aquinas won King of the Hill out of 239 in 19:15.7 by 74 seconds and is eighth. Eva Delaney of Creekside sits ninth ahead of Alba Antunez-Perez's projection, a real result over a seed a few seconds better. Allison Austin of Atlantic Coast was second at Buchholz in 19:10.4 and drops from tenth to thirteenth as the girls above her raced past.
A runner is ranked on her whole season, with the most recent race counting most, and a race she won never counts against her. As always, this is data plus judgment, and we will miss somebody along the way. A (P) next to a name means that runner has not opened yet and we are going on last November. 1. Madison Muller, Riverview (Sarasota), Jr.
Did not race. Two races, two wins by more than a minute and a half: 17:33.1 at North Port on a course that hands time back, and 17:52.6 at Wellen Park, worth about 17:40. She is first over Gaona-Zelaya by 1.3 seconds on the season, and the two of them have not raced.
2. Natalia Gaona-Zelaya, Wiregrass Ranch, Sr.
Won the Astronaut Invitational in 18:22.4 by 47 seconds, her fourth win in four starts, on a course that reads about 40 seconds slow; leveled, about 17:41. Ragin' Storm, Whispering Pines, the Horse Park out of 411, and Saturday. Third to second, past Duffell, and 1.3 seconds behind Muller on the season.
3. Arabella Duffell, Lake Nona, Jr.
Did not race. The Cecil Field win in 17:53.0 and the St. Cloud win by 50 seconds in 17:38.5, worth about 17:51. A missed week is not held against her; Gaona-Zelaya's fourth win rates ten seconds better than her second. Second to third.
4. Katherine Eudaly, Plant, Jr.
Did not race. Three races, three wins: Jim Ryun in 19:00.9, West Hillsborough in 18:40.3, Parker Valby in 18:48.7 by 49 seconds over Katelin Wilcox. Fourth, where she was, and unbeaten.
5. Avery Hartley, Bartram Trail, So.
Did not race. 18:13.0 for second at Cecil Field, and nothing since August 21. Fifth for a fourth week on one race.
6. Eva McMenemy-Hoang, Viera
Second at Astronaut in 19:09.9, 47 seconds behind Gaona-Zelaya and 21 ahead of Selah Vignier, the 2A state champion, in her first result of the season. Astronaut reads slow, so the run is worth about 18:28, and one race puts her sixth in the class. The girls behind her have raced twice.
7. Nicole Lewis, Doral Academy, Jr.
Did not race. The Pine Crest win in 19:09.1 out of 325, which is not held against her, and 18:43.0 for fifth at the Horse Park. Sixth to seventh as McMenemy-Hoang went in.
8. Elise Brown, St. Thomas Aquinas, So.
Won King of the Hill on Thursday out of 239 in 19:15.7, 74 seconds clear, on a course that reads about half a minute slow, worth about 18:49. 18:50.0 for seventh at Cecil Field before that. Two races that say the same thing. Eighth, where she was.
9. Eva Delaney, Creekside, So.
Did not race. 18:57.0 for tenth at Cecil Field and 18:44.8 for sixth at the Horse Park. Ninth, ahead of Alba Antunez-Perez's projection by rule: a real result within a few seconds of a seed outranks the seed.
10. Alba Antunez-Perez, Spanish River (Boca Raton), Sr. (P)
Still has not raced. Spanish River's group has run Pine Crest and Dr. Garcia without her. Entered on her 18:20.3 from state last fall, and Delaney's two races are 1.9 seconds behind that seed and go ahead of it. Seventh to tenth.
Just missed
Peyton Cerasi (Matanzas, Jr.) is first out on 19:07.0 at Cecil Field; her DeLand win in 18:53.0 came on a course that reads fast and is not held against her. Emma Godfrey (Creekside, Fr.) was eighth at the Horse Park in 19:03.3 after 19:08.0 at Cecil, a freshman on two races seven tenths behind Cerasi. Allison Austin (Atlantic Coast, So.), tenth a week ago, was second at Buchholz in 19:10.4 behind Giles, after 18:56.0 at Cecil Field, and is thirteenth as the girls above her raced past. Avalyn Thompson (Lake Brantley, Sr.) won Spruce Creek on Saturday in 18:55.5 by more than two minutes, three wins in three starts, two of them on courses we could not rate. Lailani Levy (Spanish River, So.) is a projection on 18:42.2.
How we ranked them
- Courses do not all run the same speed, so we do not compare raw times. Cecil Field is the yardstick; for other meets we use runners who raced both that course and last year's state meet to work out what a time was worth.
- A runner is ranked on her whole season, weighted toward the most recent race: this week counts four times, last week three, week two twice, opening weekend once. A race she won is never allowed to lower that figure.
- Where two ranked runners have raced each other and neither has raced since, the finish orders them. A real result within a few seconds of a projection outranks the projection.
- Runners who have not opened are ranked on last November and marked (P). A missed week is never held against anyone.
- Grades and classes are 2026-27, resolved against the FHSAA classification documents.
