Florida Class 2A girls cross country through four weeks: August 21-September 12, 2026
Selah Vignier of West Shore, the 2A champion, was third at the Astronaut Invitational in 19:31.4, 69 seconds behind Natalia Gaona-Zelaya and 21 behind Eva McMenemy-Hoang, both 4A, on a slow course. She has now raced three times and beaten every 2A girl she has seen. Stella Krueger of Episcopal did not race and is second, ahead of teammate Kate Brice's projection, because a real result within a few seconds of a seed outranks the seed. Esther Dobbin of Cocoa Beach, an eighth grader, was sixth at Astronaut in 19:59.7 and has raced three times, each one worth a little more. Julianna Hart of Ransom Everglades was seventh there in 20:21.8 and is first out. Nobody else in the ten raced.
A runner is ranked on her whole season, with the most recent race counting most, and a race she won never counts against her. As always, this is data plus judgment, and we will miss somebody along the way. A (P) next to a name means that runner has not opened yet and we are going on last November. How we sorted everybody out is at the bottom. Races are not won until the kids have run. Enjoy.

1. Selah Vignier, West Shore, Jr.
Third at the Astronaut Invitational in 19:31.4, 69 seconds behind Natalia Gaona-Zelaya and 21 behind Eva McMenemy-Hoang, both 4A, on a slow course; leveled, that is about 18:50, the best of her three races. Eighth at Cecil Field in 18:55.0, the Kowboy win in 19:06.1 that is not held against her, and Saturday. The 2A champion has not lost to a 2A girl.
2. Stella Krueger, Episcopal, Jr.
Did not race. 19:05.3 for tenth at the Horse Park in her only race, worth about 19:10, and Episcopal was fourth in the team race behind her. Second, ahead of her teammate's projection, because a real result within a few seconds of a seed outranks the seed.
3. Kate Brice, Episcopal (Jacksonville), Jr. (P)
Still has not raced. Episcopal ran the Horse Park without her. She is entered on her 18:36.8 from state last fall, the best returning time in the class, and Krueger's Horse Park run is 3.9 seconds behind that seed and goes ahead of it.
4. Daniela Hernandez, Carrollton, Sr.
Did not race. Second at Pine Crest out of 325 in 19:16.7 on August 28, and Carrollton ran the Horse Park without her. One race, and it is the fourth-best figure in the class.
5. Sofie Stam, Bolles, So.
Did not race; Bolles ran only its JV at Nights of Thunder. 19:20.0 for 21st at Cecil Field on opening night and nothing since. Fifth, where she was.
6. Claire Chanon, Cardinal Gibbons, Jr.
Did not race. Fourth at Pine Crest in 19:27.6 on August 28, and nothing since. Sixth, where she was.
7. Esther Dobbin, Cocoa Beach, 8th grade
Sixth at Astronaut in 19:59.7, worth about 19:18, the best of her three races leveled: the Cocoa Beach win in 20:28.2, sixth at St. Cloud in 19:25.7, and Saturday. An eighth grader racing varsity, and each race has been worth a little more than the last. Eighth to seventh.
8. Giuliana Serra, Cardinal Gibbons, Sr.
Did not race. Sixth at Pine Crest in 19:34.8, in her only race. She ran 21:34.7 at state last fall, so that August run was two minutes better. Seventh to eighth as Dobbin went past.
9. Lily Ghavami, Berkeley Prep, Jr.
Did not race; Berkeley Prep ran the Horse Park without her. Seventh at Whispering Pines in 19:34.0 on August 29, in her only race. Ninth, where she was.
10. Gabriella Socarras, Carrollton, Sr.
Did not race. Ninth at Pine Crest in 19:59.7 and 15th at the Horse Park in 19:25.4, 34 seconds better on the clock. Carrollton's second runner. Tenth, where she was.
Just missed
Julianna Hart (Ransom Everglades, Fr.) is first out, a tenth of a second behind Socarras on the season: seventh at Astronaut in 20:21.8, worth about 19:40, after winning the Palmer Trinity meet on a course that reads more than a minute slow. Ransom was second in the team race behind her. Holland McKinney (Episcopal, So.) was 23rd at the Horse Park in 19:39.0. Eva Martinez-Lejarza (Carrollton, Fr.) is on Pine Crest and the Horse Park. Lyla McMillen (Montverde Academy, Jr.) was 32nd at the Horse Park in 19:56.5. Rebecca Lee (Edgewood, So.) was ninth at Astronaut in 20:44.1 after 19:54.0 at Cecil Field.
How we ranked them
- Courses do not all run the same speed, so we do not compare raw times. Cecil Field is the yardstick; for other meets we use runners who raced both that course and last year's state meet to work out what a time was worth.
- A runner is ranked on her whole season, weighted toward the most recent race: this week counts four times, last week three, week two twice, opening weekend once. A race she won is never allowed to lower that figure.
- Where two ranked runners have raced each other and neither has raced since, the finish orders them. A real result within a few seconds of a projection outranks the projection.
- Runners who have not opened are ranked on last November and marked (P). A missed week is never held against anyone.
- Grades and classes are 2026-27, resolved against the FHSAA classification documents.
