Florida Class 2A girls cross country through three weeks: August 21-September 5, 2026
The 2A champion did not race, and neither did the girl behind her, and the class still moved. Episcopal opened at the Florida Horse Park on Saturday and Stella Krueger ran 19:05.3 for tenth in a 411-girl field, the fastest time by a 2A girl this season outside Vignier's opening night. Carrollton, the team we had ranked on paper, has now raced twice, and Daniela Hernandez's Pine Crest run holds fourth. An eighth grader from Cocoa Beach ran 19:25.7 at St. Cloud. Starting this week a runner is ranked on her whole season, with the most recent race counting most, and a race she wins never counts against her. As always, this is data plus judgment, and we will miss somebody along the way. A (P) next to a name means she has not opened yet and we are going on last November. How we sorted everybody out is at the bottom. Races are not won until the kids have run. Enjoy.

1. Selah Vignier, West Shore, Jr.
The 2A state champion at 18:14.7 has raced twice: 18:55.0 at Cecil Field and a win at the Kowboy Invitational in 19:06.1. Neither is her November self, and a win never counts against a runner, so she is ranked on the Cecil run. That is still the best figure in the class by ten seconds. She did not race in week three.
2. Kate Brice, Episcopal, Jr.: (P)
Third in 2A at state in 18:36.8, and no race yet. Episcopal ran the Horse Park on Saturday without her. She holds second on November because the girls who have raced have not run past that number, and the one who came closest is her own teammate.
3. Stella Krueger, Episcopal, Jr.
Tenth at the Horse Park in 19:05.3, the fastest time by a 2A girl this season outside Vignier's Cecil Field opener, and 39 seconds better than her state time. One race, and it is four seconds behind a projection. She and Brice will sort second out the first time they race together.
4. Daniela Hernandez, Carrollton, Sr.
Second at the Pine Crest meet on August 28 in 19:16.7, out of 325, leading Carrollton to the team win. Fourth in 2A at state in 18:45.2. She did not score for Carrollton at the Horse Park on Saturday, and the class is waiting on her next start.
5. Sofie Stam, Bolles, So.
19:20.0 at Cecil Field on opening night, and nothing since. Tenth in 2A at state in 19:02.4.
6. Claire Chanon, Cardinal Gibbons, Jr.
Fourth at Pine Crest in 19:27.6, 23rd in 2A at state in 19:29.7, and a race that landed almost exactly on her November number.
7. Giuliana Serra, Cardinal Gibbons, Sr.
Sixth at Pine Crest in 19:34.8, seven seconds behind her teammate. She was 107th in 2A at state in 21:34.7, so that is two minutes of improvement in one race.
8. Esther Dobbin, Cocoa Beach, 8th grade
Won the Cocoa Beach Tuesday night meet by more than two and a half minutes in 20:28.2, then ran 19:25.7 for sixth at the St. Cloud Invitational on Saturday. An eighth grader, two races, and a minute of improvement between them.
9. Lily Ghavami, Berkeley Prep, Jr.
19:34.0 at Whispering Pines, worth about 19:39 leveled. 41st in 2A at state in 19:53.6. One race.
10. Gabriella Socarras, Carrollton, Sr.
19:59.7 at Pine Crest and 19:25.4 for 15th at the Horse Park, 34 seconds better the second time, and Carrollton's first finisher on Saturday with Hernandez out of the five. Seventeenth in 2A at state in 19:17.3.
Just missed
Holland McKinney (Episcopal, So.) is first out on her 19:39.0 at the Horse Park, Episcopal's second finisher. Rebecca Lee (Edgewood, So.) ran 19:54.0 at Cecil Field. Madison Easton (Oasis, Jr.) has raced twice, 19:58.2 at Lehigh and 20:27.5 at Cape Coral. Eva Martinez-Lejarza (Carrollton, Sr.) ran 19:52.5 at Pine Crest and 20:01.7 at the Horse Park.
How we ranked them
- Courses do not all run the same speed, so we do not compare raw times. Cecil Field is the yardstick; for other meets we use runners who raced both that course and last year's state meet to work out what a time was worth. The girls' field ran about half a minute slower in August than at state, and that is removed before a course is rated.
- A runner is ranked on her whole season, weighted toward the most recent race: this week counts three times, last week twice, opening weekend once. A race she won is never allowed to lower that figure, which is why Vignier is on her Cecil run rather than her Kowboy win.
- Runners who have not opened are ranked on last November and marked (P). A raced runner within a couple of seconds of a projection is ranked ahead of it; Krueger is four seconds behind Brice and stays third.
- Grades and classes are 2026-27, resolved against the FHSAA classification documents. Middle schoolers racing varsity for a high school program are ranked with it.
