Axel Sallault leads Class 4A after running 15:04 at New World, Bryant Olson moves up to fourth, and Martin Fernandez and Bogdan Anghel come into the ten.

Florida Class 4A boys cross country through nine weeks: August 21-October 17, 2026

Most of the state's best runners met at the New World Fall Spectacular in Jacksonville on Saturday, the deepest race of the Florida season so far. Where two runners met there, that result orders them. A runner who did not race is not marked down for it.

Axel Sallault of East Ridge was fifth in the Boys Elite race in 15:04, the first 4A runner across. Jaxon Kiper of Strawberry Crest was seventh in 15:10 and Bryant Olson of Niceville ninth in 15:11, and Olson moves from seventh to fourth, his place on our statewide list. Quentin Thompson of Lake Minneola did not race and holds second; Sallault beat him at Hawks on the Hill on September 19.

Martin Fernandez of Doral Academy was 11th in 15:12, one second ahead of Matthew Ishee of Nease, and comes into the ten. So does Bogdan Anghel of Wiregrass Ranch, 15th in 15:20, ahead of Luis Rivera, Douglas Seth and Rishi Chopra. Andrew Sides of Buchholz was 22nd and drops out.

A runner is ranked on his whole season, with the most recent race counting most, and a race he won never counts against him. This is data plus judgment, and we will miss somebody along the way. How we sorted everybody out is at the bottom.

The statewide lists: week 9 boys top 10 and week 9 girls top 10. The 4A boys team rankings are here. Last week's version of this list is here. The other class lists this week: 4A girls, 1A boys, 2A boys, 3A boys.

1. Axel Sallault, East Ridge, Sr.

Fifth at New World in 15:04 out of 420, behind the three Belen Jesuit runners and Isaiah Howdeshell of Largo (3A). He has won five races this fall, including Hawks on the Hill on September 19 in 15:05.9, ahead of Thompson. Fifth on the statewide list. First.

2. Quentin Thompson, Lake Minneola, Sr.

Did not race at New World. Won the Wildwood Invitational on October 10 in 16:19.0. Second to Sallault at Hawks on the Hill on September 19, 15:29.0 to 15:05.9, and the two have not met since. Sixth on the statewide list. Second.

3. Jaxon Kiper, Strawberry Crest, Sr.

Seventh at New World in 15:10, two places ahead of Olson. Won the Don Bishop Invitational on October 3 in 15:24.2, ahead of Jonas Williams. Eighth on the statewide list. Third.

4. Bryant Olson, Niceville, So.

Ninth at New World in 15:11, a week after Hurricane Isaias closed his school, one second ahead of Fernandez and two ahead of Ishee. Sixteenth in the Southern Showcase championship race on September 19. Tenth on the statewide list. Up from seventh to fourth.

5. Martin Fernandez, Doral Academy, Sr.

Eleventh at New World in 15:12, one second ahead of Ishee. Third at Snake Bite on October 10 in 15:38.4 and second in the Spanish River Race of Champions on September 18. New to the ten at fifth.

Recovery

Recovery boots for the family that is all in.

Hyperice Normatec 3 compression boots are what college programs use between hard days: a slow squeeze from the feet up that leaves legs feeling fresh for the next workout. A big buy, and one a lot of runners say they use every night in October.

6. Matthew Ishee, Nease, Jr.

Twelfth at New World in 15:13, Nease's first runner, one second behind Fernandez. Thirty-seventh in the COROS Race of Champions at the Great American on October 3 in 15:35.4. Down from fourth to sixth: Olson and Fernandez beat him on Saturday.

7. Bogdan Anghel, Wiregrass Ranch, Sr.

Fifteenth at New World in 15:20, ahead of Rivera, Seth, Chopra and Sides. Third at the Stampede Sprint on September 26, behind Jack Bronder of Steinbrenner, and seventh at Hawks on the Hill on September 19, behind Jacob Kelly and Drew Sasson of Lake Minneola and Maleik Lewis of Horizon. None of those four has raced him since, and none is on this list. New to the ten at seventh.

8. Jonas Williams, Newsome, Sr.

Did not race. Second to Kiper at the Don Bishop Invitational on October 3 in 15:36.0, and won the Raider Open on September 19 in 15:27.0. A missed week is never held against anyone, and he holds eighth.

9. Luis Rivera, St. Cloud, Sr.

Sixteenth at New World in 15:21, one second behind Anghel and five ahead of Seth. Won the North Port Invite on September 19 in 15:20.2. Ninth.

How we ranked them

  • Courses do not all run the same speed, so we do not compare raw times. Cecil Field is the yardstick; for other meets we use runners who raced both that course and last year's state meet to work out what a time was worth.
  • A runner is ranked on his whole season, weighted toward the most recent race: this week counts nine times, last week eight, and so on back to opening weekend, which counts once. A race he won is never allowed to lower that figure.
  • A head-to-head loss stands until the two runners meet again, whatever either has run elsewhere since. Where results form a loop, the most recent meeting decides. A runner who beat someone ranked above him moves up to that runner's spot.
  • Head-to-heads from September 12 and earlier no longer order runners. Those races are a month old, and kids have changed since. The times still count in the season figure.
  • This list follows our statewide top 10: a runner on it is ahead of every runner in this class who is not, and runners on both lists are in the same order.
  • A missed week is never held against anyone.
  • Grades and classes are 2026-27, resolved against the FHSAA classification documents.
  • Jonas Williams did not race at New World and holds eighth: the runners who moved up there pass only the runners they beat.
  • Bogdan Anghel's September losses to Kelly, Sasson, Lewis and Bronder stand until they meet again. None of the four is ranked here, and this list is ordered by meetings between the runners on it.

Every result behind this list is in the rankings section, and the full weekend is in the weekend recap.
