Pensacola Christian and Maclay finally shared a starting line. At the Florida Horse Park on Saturday, in a 75-team race, Pensacola Christian finished 16th with 543 points and Maclay 19th with 602, and that settles the top of this class for now. Maclay still has the better season figure by five seconds a runner. The race is the race.
Underneath them the class re-sorted itself. Cornerstone Classical was eight points behind Maclay at the Horse Park and is third. Southwest Florida Christian won the 3D Sommers Invitational and moved up to fifth. Sheridan Hills Christian was fourth at the Dr. Garcia Bulldog Invite and is in the ten for the first time. And Jupiter Christian, ninth a week ago on a projection, is gone from this page for a reason explained at the bottom.
Starting this week a team is ranked on its whole season, with the most recent race counting most, and a meet it won never counts against it. The virtual race behind these scores contains only Class 1A teams, so a team's place here and on the statewide list can differ. As always, this is data plus judgment, and we will miss somebody along the way. A (P) beside a team means it has not put its returning five on a starting line and is entered on what they ran last November. How we sorted it out is at the bottom. About the times. The average on each line is the season figure the scoring uses, in Cecil Field terms. The time next to each runner is what he actually ran in his most recent race that counts; the figure in parentheses is what it is worth at Cecil Field. A projected team's marks are its runners' 2025 state times.

1. Pensacola Christian: 152 points

Third a week ago on the Pine Forest run, first now on the Horse Park one. Isaiah Manderson ran 16:28.4 there, more than a minute better than his Pine Forest time, and Moses Peterlevitz, Carson Ohman and Walter Goncalves all took 20 to 50 seconds off theirs. The 1:05 spread is the fourth-tightest of any raced team in the class. They beat Maclay by 59 points on the same course on the same day, and that is why they are here.
2. Maclay (Tallahassee): 148 points

The best season average in Class 1A, 17:31.2, and second, because Pensacola Christian beat them on Saturday. David Barton was the class's best runner at the Horse Park in 16:21.1, but Gavin McVay went 17:15 at Cecil Field and 17:54 in Ocala, and the fourth and fifth men were 17:48 and 17:47. Nothing wrong with this team. They were 19th in a 75-team race, and the team ranked above them was 16th.
3. Cornerstone Classical Academy: 191 points

Eight points behind Maclay at the Horse Park, 610 to 602. Jack Kline 16:23.7 and Broderick Olson 16:45.4 are the best one-two in the class, and Boone Bishop ran 18:23.2 in his first race of the year to close the five. The 1:58 spread is what keeps them third instead of first; the two in front can be beaten and the three behind them cannot yet.
4. Holy Trinity (Melbourne): 216 points

Have not raced since the Indian River Fairgrounds on August 29, and slid from second to fourth without doing anything wrong. Jesus Martinez and Zamari Blumenberg were 17:31 and 17:35 there, worth 17:00 and 17:05 at Cecil, and the season averages 17:48.9 on a 1:22 spread. Three teams raced past them on Saturday. They need to run.
5. Southwest Florida Christian (Fort Myers): 278 points

Won the 3D Sommers Invitational with 74 points, on a slow course. Nash Akers 17:55.5, Aiden Stratton 18:25.9 and Liam Piper 18:49.6 all count from that race; Ty Piper's 17:38.0 from Lemon Bay on opening weekend and Shepard Anderson's 17:41.8 from North Port fill the five. Three races, a 0:59.7 spread, and up from seventh. The tightest five in the top seven.
6. Circle Christian (Winter Park): 291 points

Matteo Kirwan 16:34.0 at Cecil Field; Aschalew Parker 18:00.4 at St. Cloud (17:49.8); Jonah Lehman-Saba 18:07.3 at St. Cloud (17:56.7); Corban Houdashelt 19:04.7 at St. Cloud (18:54.1); Joshua Chegwin 19:09.1 at St. Cloud (18:58.5). Then Jacob McNally 19:31.7 at St. Cloud (19:21.1); Jacob Mcanlly 19:42.0 at Cecil Field.
Ninth at the St. Cloud Invitational with 292, and Matteo Kirwan was not there. His 16:34.0 from Cecil Field is one of the fastest marks in the class this season and it is still the only race he has run. Aschalew Parker 18:00.4 and Jonah Lehman-Saba 18:07.3 led the St. Cloud group. Fifth to sixth, and a different team the day Kirwan and the other four line up together.
7. Oak Hall (Gainesville): 332 points

Thirty-fifth at the Horse Park with 1032. Dylan Kirk 17:26.0 and Henri Pelletier 17:46.0 were fine; James McDonald, Nathaniel Parrott and Alexander Braithwaite all ran 18:34 to 18:57, about what they ran at Whispering Pines. Sixth to seventh. Two good runners and three at 18:50 is a top-ten 1A team and not a top-five one.
8. South Florida HEAT (Sunrise): 464 points

Forty-fourth at the Horse Park with 1248, on the same day a second group ran the Dr. Garcia meet. David Dorn 17:58.9, Carlos Broderick 18:26.5 and Jacob Ryle 18:36.9 in Ocala, Treyton Seeman 19:01.4, and Zeb Dorn 19:24.2 in his first race. Thirteenth a week ago, eighth now, mostly because the teams around them fell further.
9. St. Johns Country Day (Orange Park): 471 points

Cecil Field, and nothing since. Nathan Kipnis 18:08.0 and Arlo Kistner 18:11.0, then two at 18:45 and a fifth at 19:56. Tenth to ninth without racing. The same warning as Holy Trinity: this is a two-week-old number in a class that ran on Saturday.
10. Sheridan Hills Christian (Hollywood): 479 points

Fourth at the Dr. Garcia Bulldog Invite with 227, and new to the ten. Santiago Ospina ran 18:06.5 in his first race, worth 17:39 at Cecil, and Josh Cadelien and Sebastien Calder were 18:25.9 and 18:26.2. The fifth man is Adrian Lopez's 21:21.2 from Jim Ryun on opening weekend, and that 3:03 spread is the widest in the ten. Find a fifth and this team moves.

11. Lakeland Christian, 518, was 17th at St. Cloud, Kage Goldsmith 17:55.5 and three races that keep getting better. 12. Seacoast Collegiate, 544, was ninth at the Pace Patriot Invitational and dropped from eighth; Carter Jackson ran 18:03 at Pine Forest and 20:42 at Pace. 13. Harvest Community, 553. 14. Out-of-Door, 556, has the tightest raced five in the class, 54 seconds, and ran short-handed at Wellen Park.
Jupiter Christian was ninth a week ago on a projection. Three of the five returners the projection was built on have raced for other schools this season: Frankie Flora for Martin County, Andrew Stanek and Dominick Gilliam for Jupiter. The projection is withdrawn. The team that ran the Dr. Garcia meet finished 27th with 672 and is 72nd here. Atlantic Christian, 15th, was seventh at Dr. Garcia; Elijah Arterburn is the No. 2 individual in the class and the fifth man is 4:25 behind him. Marathon, 17th, won the FNU Invitational on Lucian Burns's 16:24.1 season figure. True North, 16th, has Lukas Arrojo and has not raced since Palmer Trinity.
Where the virtual race disagrees with this list
- Pensacola Christian over Maclay (Tallahassee): 16th and 19th at Horse Park. The virtual race has Maclay first by four points on the better average. Saturday had Pensacola Christian 59 points better. The race wins.
How we ranked them
- Every mark is converted to a Cecil Field equivalent through the runners who ran both that course and last year's state meet. The boys' field ran about a second slower in August than at state, and that is removed before a course is rated.
- Each runner is scored on his whole season, weighted toward the most recent race: this week counts three times, last week twice, opening weekend once. A race he won never lowers that figure, and a meet a team won never lowers the team's. A school's five best runners on that basis are its team.
- Those five, with a sixth and seventh where they exist, go into one virtual race against every other Class 1A team and are scored the way cross country is scored: top five count, sixth and seventh displace, five finishers required, low score wins. 92 1A boys teams cleared the bar; 2 of them are projections. Scores climb every week as more teams enter and are not comparable to last week's; compare the order and the averages.
- Where two teams in this class raced each other this week with at least three of their scoring seven, the team that won ranks ahead of the team it beat. Those moves are listed above.
