Belen Jesuit won New World and leads the Class 3A boys team rankings, Fort Myers is second, and Bishop Kenny jumps to third after beating Vanguard, Fleming Island, Leon and Ponte Vedra.

Florida Class 3A boys cross country team rankings through nine weeks: August 21-October 17, 2026

Most of the state's best teams met at the New World Fall Spectacular in Jacksonville on Saturday, the deepest meet of the Florida season so far. Where two teams met there, that result orders them. Some teams were missing a top runner, so we also scored the race as if every team had its full top five, the same way our statewide lists did, and that full-strength result is the one we use. How we placed the missing runners is at the bottom.

Belen Jesuit won the Boys Elite race with 55. Marcelo Mantecon ran 14:24, a course record, with Armando Cruz and Jack Michalak second and third. Fort Myers did not go to New World and won Lee County Under The Lights on Friday with 26. They are first and second, the same order as our statewide list.

Behind them, five 3A teams finished inside 57 points of each other at New World. Bishop Kenny was the first of them, 14th with 475, five points ahead of Vanguard, then Fleming Island, Leon and Ponte Vedra. That moves Bishop Kenny from eighth to third and Ponte Vedra from second to seventh. Luke Ross was eighth in the race in 15:10, but Ponte Vedra's next four were all past 115th.

A team is ranked on its whole season, with the most recent race counting most, and a meet it won never counts against it. A team that sat out the weekend is not marked down for it. The virtual race behind these scores contains only Class 3A teams, so a team's place here and on the statewide list can differ. As always, this is data plus judgment, and we will miss somebody along the way. A (P) beside a team means it has not put its returning five on a starting line and is entered on what they ran last November. How we sorted it out is at the bottom.

About the times. The average on each line is the converted season figure the scoring uses, in Cecil Field terms, and so are the times beside each runner's name. Times in the write-ups are what the kids actually ran that day; the race log for every runner is on the rankings page.

The statewide lists: Week 9 boys team top 10 and Week 9 girls team top 10. The 3A boys individuals are here, and last week’s edition of this list is here. The other classes this week: 3A girls, 1A boys, 2A boys, 4A boys.

The Garmin Forerunner 165 is the watch we point most high school runners to: GPS that holds a signal on wooded courses, heart-rate zones, a bright screen, and the same Garmin Connect app the college programs use. It does the job of watches that cost twice as much.

How we ranked them

  • Every mark is converted to a Cecil Field equivalent through the runners who ran both that course and last year's state meet.
  • Each runner is scored on his whole season, weighted toward the most recent race: this week counts nine times, last week eight, and so on back to opening weekend, which counts once. A race he won never lowers that figure, and a meet a team won never lowers the team's. A school's five best runners on that basis are its team.
  • Those five, with a sixth and seventh where they exist, go into one virtual race against every other Class 3A team, scored the way cross country is scored. 121 3A boys teams cleared the bar; none of them is a projection. Points climb as more teams enter and are not comparable to last week's; compare the order.
  • Where two teams in this class have raced each other with at least three of their scoring seven, the team that won ranks ahead of the team it beat until they meet again. Where results go round in a circle, the newest meeting decides. A race run without a team's No. 1 or without two of its scoring five is not held against it.
  • Results from September 12 and earlier no longer order teams. The times still count in the figures.
  • New World is read at full strength, the same way as on the statewide list: for every Florida team there missing one of its season top five, we put the missing runner back at his season figure converted to the New World course, added 19 seconds to be conservative, and re-scored the whole race. Those added times are estimates, not results.
  • These lists follow the statewide team list: a team ranked on it is ahead of every team in its class that is not, and teams on both lists are in the same order. A team that did not race this weekend holds its place.
  • A team whose returning five have not raced is entered on last November's state times and marked (P).
  • Classes are 2026-27, resolved against the FHSAA classification documents.
  • Fleming Island and Chiles are ranked on their full-strength New World scores: Jack Loehr went in at 17:40 and Jack Nottingham at 16:18.
  • Fort Myers and Tavares did not race at New World and hold their places against the teams they have not met.

Every result behind this list is in the rankings section, and the full weekend is in the weekend recap.
