Pensacola Christian holds first in the Class 1A boys team rankings, and Circle Christian jumps to second after beating Cornerstone Classical and Maclay at New World.

Florida Class 1A boys cross country team rankings through nine weeks: August 21-October 17, 2026

Most of the state's best teams met at the New World Fall Spectacular in Jacksonville on Saturday, the deepest meet of the Florida season so far. Where two teams met there, that result orders them. Some teams were missing a top runner, so we also scored the race as if every team had its full top five, the same way our statewide lists did, and that full-strength result is the one we use. How we placed the missing runners is at the bottom.

Pensacola Christian did not race and holds first. Three 1A teams ran the Boys Elite race at New World, and they finished close. Circle Christian was 27th with 737 and Cornerstone Classical 28th with 745, eight points apart, with Maclay 37th. Circle Christian moves up from sixth to second, and Cornerstone and Maclay are third and fourth.

This one is close. Cornerstone's season figures are better than Circle Christian's, and Jack Kline was 32nd in 15:38, but Circle Christian had two runners in before Cornerstone's second and beat it head to head, on the day and at full strength.

A team is ranked on its whole season, with the most recent race counting most, and a meet it won never counts against it. A team that sat out the weekend is not marked down for it. The virtual race behind these scores contains only Class 1A teams, so a team's place here and on the statewide list can differ. As always, this is data plus judgment, and we will miss somebody along the way. A (P) beside a team means it has not put its returning five on a starting line and is entered on what they ran last November. How we sorted it out is at the bottom.

About the times. The average on each line is the converted season figure the scoring uses, in Cecil Field terms, and so are the times beside each runner's name. Times in the write-ups are what the kids actually ran that day; the race log for every runner is on the rankings page.

The statewide lists: Week 9 boys team top 10 and Week 9 girls team top 10. The 1A boys individuals are here, and last week’s edition of this list is here. The other classes this week: 1A girls, 2A boys, 3A boys, 4A boys.

Just missed

Seacoast Collegiate (Santa Rosa Beach) was 45th in the Boys Elite race at New World and second to Rocky Bayou at Walton County on Tuesday, and is 11th. Out-of-Door (Sarasota) was second at its own ODA Thunder meet on Saturday and is 12th. Lakeland Christian won the ROC Weekend Run on Saturday and is 13th.

Where the virtual race disagrees with this list

  • Circle Christian over Cornerstone Classical: 765 to 774 at the New World Fall Spectacular, scored at full strength.
  • Rocky Bayou Christian over Seacoast Collegiate: 1st and 2nd at the Walton County Home Meet 1, and they have not met since.
  • South Florida HEAT over Seacoast Collegiate: HEAT ran the B race at New World and Seacoast the Elite race, so they did not meet, and Seacoast's edge in the figure is drift from other teams' results.

How we ranked them

  • Every mark is converted to a Cecil Field equivalent through the runners who ran both that course and last year's state meet.
  • Each runner is scored on his whole season, weighted toward the most recent race: this week counts nine times, last week eight, and so on back to opening weekend, which counts once. A race he won never lowers that figure, and a meet a team won never lowers the team's. A school's five best runners on that basis are its team.
  • Those five, with a sixth and seventh where they exist, go into one virtual race against every other Class 1A team, scored the way cross country is scored. 107 1A boys teams cleared the bar; none of them is a projection. Points climb as more teams enter and are not comparable to last week's; compare the order.
  • Where two teams in this class have raced each other with at least three of their scoring seven, the team that won ranks ahead of the team it beat until they meet again. Where results go round in a circle, the newest meeting decides. A race run without a team's No. 1 or without two of its scoring five is not held against it.
  • Results from September 12 and earlier no longer order teams. The times still count in the figures.
  • New World is read at full strength, the same way as on the statewide list: for every Florida team there missing one of its season top five, we put the missing runner back at his season figure converted to the New World course, added 19 seconds to be conservative, and re-scored the whole race. Those added times are estimates, not results.
  • These lists follow the statewide team list: a team ranked on it is ahead of every team in its class that is not, and teams on both lists are in the same order. A team that did not race this weekend holds its place.
  • A team whose returning five have not raced is entered on last November's state times and marked (P).
  • Classes are 2026-27, resolved against the FHSAA classification documents.
  • Maclay is ranked on its full-strength New World score: Gavin McVay went in at 17:13.
  • Oak Hall, St. Johns Country Day and South Florida HEAT ran the B race at New World, not the Elite race, so they did not meet the Elite teams there. Walton County Home Meet 1 is not rated this week; Rocky Bayou's win over Seacoast there still orders the two.

Every result behind this list is in the rankings section, and the full weekend is in the weekend recap.
