Whispering Pines finally raced three of the girls the math called even, and the middle of the list moved. Wilcox holds second on the head-to-head. Tomasic still hasn't raced, and that ends Saturday in Ocala.
Florida Class 3A girls cross country through two weeks: August 21-29, 2026
The four girls behind Tomasic spent week one stacked inside three seconds of each other on three different courses, none of them head to head, and we said one honest race would sort all four out. On Saturday, three of them got it. Whispering Pines put Lyla Hallick, Lydia Vincent and Mary Summers of 1A on the same start line, and the race did exactly what races do: it replaced our arithmetic with an actual order. The middle of this list is rearranged accordingly, and the course correction that came out of that same race, the biggest we have made all season, rearranged a little more.
As always, this is data plus judgment, and we will miss somebody along the way. A (P) next to a name means she has not opened yet and we are going on last November. How we sorted it out is at the bottom. Races are not won until the kids have run. Enjoy.

1. Annabella Tomasic, Bishop Moore (Orlando), So. (P)
Still unraced, still first, still no argument available. She won the 3A title as a freshman in 17:35.5, the fastest returning time by any girl in Florida, and a defending champion keeps the top spot until somebody beats her in a race.
Bishop Moore is entered at the Florida Horse Park on Saturday, on the course where Tomasic won last September in 17:33.3. After two weeks of ranking her on a nine-month-old race, that is the sentence that matters. The full preview is built around her.
2. Katelin Wilcox, East Lake, Sr.
Idle since opening night, and still second, on the one head-to-head that matters. The only time Wilcox and Hallick have shared a start line, at Cecil Field in the deepest girls race in Florida, Wilcox finished two seconds in front, and her 18:35.0 from that night is still the fastest mark in the class on level ground.
Hallick has spent the two weeks since beating everybody else. She has not beaten Wilcox, because they have not met again, and until they do or Wilcox's idle streak runs much longer, the result they actually ran settles the order between them.
3. Lyla Hallick, Vanguard (Ocala), So.
The busiest and best fortnight of anyone in the class. Hallick followed her 18:37.0 at Cecil with second at Whispering Pines in 18:25.4, worth about 18:31 leveled, and in that race she put 8.7 seconds on Vincent and 13.9 on Summers, the girls the math said were even with her. The only 3A girl she has raced and not beaten is the one ranked directly above her.
A 20th-place 4A finisher last November, a transfer, and now this, as a sophomore. Vanguard is entered at the Horse Park, where she ran 20:07.0 a year ago in a Forest singlet. No one on this page has changed more in twelve months.
4. Lydia Vincent, Zephyrhills, Sr.
Up one spot, and she earned it twice over. Vincent was third at Whispering Pines in 18:34.1, and her two races now level out within about two seconds of each other, either side of 18:38. It was her double, Lecanto plus Whispering Pines, that exposed the bad Lecanto rating and forced the correction the whole state list is talking about, so she is simultaneously the girl the old number wronged and the girl who proved it. Her 18:38.4 from state says the current number is exactly right.
5. Lainee Mercer, Springstead, Jr.
Down one, through no fault of her running. Mercer has not raced since opening night at Ragin' Storm, her leveled mark of about 18:36 is still a whisker ahead of Vincent's on paper, and it does not matter: Vincent raced twice and confirmed her number, and Mercer's is still a one-race estimate. Her 18:15.3 from state remains the second-best returning time in the class behind Tomasic.
Springstead is entered at the Horse Park, where Mercer finished second last September in 18:10.3, faster than anything our math currently credits her with. One big Saturday and she is back past Vincent and maybe more than that.
6. Emma-Claire Tanenbaum, Chiles, So.
Idle in week two, holding on her 18:48.0 from Cecil and the fifth-place state finish behind it. Chiles is entered Saturday, and Tanenbaum plus Ables against the Horse Park field is the best team subplot of the girls' race.
7. Taylor Lawhon, Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville), Sr. (P)
Three weeks now. Bishop Kenny, the projected best girls team in Florida, has still not entered a single runner in a single meet, and Lawhon's 18:26.0 from the 2A state meet is aging on the shelf. Bishop Kenny entered boys at the Horse Park and not girls, so the wait continues. Whenever that team finally races, three names on this page move in one afternoon. We wrote that two weeks ago. It is still true.
8. Emma Poekert, Cypress Creek (Wesley Chapel), Jr.
The most consistent runner in the class and it is not close: 19:45.3 at Jim Ryun and 18:52.1 at Whispering Pines level out within one second of each other, on two courses priced from two different samples. A girl who is that repeatable at about 18:57 in August is going to be a problem in November. Cypress Creek is entered Saturday.
9. Kaia Ables, Chiles, Sr.
Holding on her 18:59.0 from Cecil, eleven seconds behind her teammate then and one spot behind her here, which remains the tidiest agreement between a race and a ranking anywhere on this page. Chiles is entered Saturday in Ocala.
10. Ashton Dahlem, Gulf Breeze, Sr. (P)
Still unraced, still holding the last spot on the 18:35.8 that made her sixth at state, and still ahead of Piper Ross for the same reason as last week: Ross's only mark is from Spikes & Spurs, the course we cannot price honestly, and we will not bump a proven state performer for a number we made up. Gulf Breeze's girls raced in week one without her and stayed home in week two, which leaves this the quietest projection on the page.
Just missed
Piper Ross (Ponte Vedra, Fr.) is still the most interesting unpriceable number in the class, and this is the last week the problem exists: Ponte Vedra is entered at the Horse Park, on a course as honest as they come. Whatever she runs Saturday is what she is worth, and if her Spikes & Spurs win was real, she will be on this list next week. Savannah LaVasser (Ponte Vedra, Sr.) is in the same boat with a smaller claim.
Camila Giles (Bishop Kenny, Jr.) and Cecelia Lear (Mount Dora, Jr.) are the best of the remaining projections, both former 2A girls, neither raced. Cierra Mills (Vanguard, Sr.) remains the second scorer on the team everybody in Ocala will be watching. Sofia Jimenez (Lourdes, So.) has not added to her week-one mark from Cecil.
How we ranked them
- Courses do not all run the same speed, so we do not compare raw times. Cecil Field is the yardstick; for other meets we use girls who raced both that course and last year's state meet to work out what a time was worth.
- The girls' fields run noticeably slower in August than at state in November, and that gap is built into every number here.
- Girls who have not opened are ranked on last November and marked (P).
- The Lecanto rating was corrected this week, on the strength of Vincent and Summers racing both Lecanto and Whispering Pines. The full working is in the statewide girls article. The week 1 edition of this list used the old rating; Vincent's marks on this page reflect the corrected one.
- Head-to-head results outrank small time gaps. That is why Wilcox stays ahead of Hallick on their Cecil Field meeting, Vincent sits ahead of Mercer, and Ables sits directly behind Tanenbaum.
- Spikes & Spurs still cannot be priced honestly, which is why Piper Ross remains unranked rather than wrongly ranked.
- Grades and classes are 2026-27.
