Belen Jesuit won the Southern Showcase championship race in Huntsville with 57 points, Mantecon, Cruz and Michalak first, second and third and Nicholas Veloso and Davi Bodoh together at 15:52, and the second seven won the Class 3A scoring of the Spanish River Race of Champions the night before. Nobody in the ten is close; the next-best season average is Fort Myers at 16:38.5 against Belen's 15:42.7.
Vanguard won the Rockledge Raider Classic with 22, four boys in the first five, and goes from third to second. Fort Myers won the North Port Invite with 84 in a 22-team field and has the better season average, and it sits third, on the call we have held since week 4: Fort Myers lost to Vanguard by seven points at Cecil Field in August, the two have not met since, and a win somewhere else does not jump a team you lost to. North Port reads about 44 seconds fast, and the win is not held against them. The next time the two share a start line settles it.
Tavares was second to Hagerty 4A at the Coach Joe McKinney Classic and moves to fourth. Ponte Vedra was second at Katie Caples, tied with Buchholz 4A on 69 and beaten on the sixth runner, and drops from second to sixth because its pack ran further back than it had at the Horse Park. Bishop Kenny, third in the same race with a 36-second spread, goes from tenth to seventh. Osceola won Mitchell with 36. St. Augustine, fifth at Katie Caples, drops out, and Fort Walton Beach comes in at tenth without racing. Data and judgment, and we will miss somebody.
A team is ranked on its whole season, with the most recent race counting most, and a meet it won never counts against it. The virtual race behind these scores contains only Class 3A teams, so a team's place here and on the statewide list can differ. As always, this is data plus judgment, and we will miss somebody along the way. A (P) beside a team means it has not put its returning five on a starting line and is entered on what they ran last November. How we sorted it out is at the bottom. Katie Caples reads about 14 seconds fast, and the pack behind Ross ran further from him than it did at the Horse Park two weeks ago, so the season figures for the second through fifth men all slipped. - Vanguard over Fort Myers: Fort Myers lost to Vanguard by seven points at Cecil Field and the two have not met since; a win on a course priced a minute slow does not jump a team it lost to (Darrin, 2026-09-13)
How we ranked them
- Every mark is converted to a Cecil Field equivalent through the runners who ran both that course and last year's state meet. The boys' field ran about a second slower in August than at state, and that is removed before a course is rated.
- Each runner is scored on his whole season, weighted toward the most recent race: this week counts five times, last week four, week three three times, week two twice, opening weekend once. A race he won never lowers that figure, and a meet a team won never lowers the team's. A school's five best runners on that basis are its team.
- Those five, with a sixth and seventh where they exist, go into one virtual race against every other Class 3A team and are scored the way cross country is scored: top five count, sixth and seventh displace, five finishers required, low score wins. 111 3A boys teams cleared the bar; 1 of them is a projection. Scores climb every week as more teams enter and are not comparable to last week's; compare the order and the averages.
- Where two teams in this class have raced each other with at least three of their scoring seven, and neither has raced on a rated course since, the team that won ranks ahead of the team it beat. Those moves are listed above.
- A team whose returning five have not raced is entered on last November's state times and marked (P). A returner who has raced for another school this season is not projected at the old one.
- Classes are 2026-27, resolved against the FHSAA classification documents.
- Vanguard over Fort Myers is the one place this list disagrees with the virtual race, and it is the same standing call as last week: a team that lost to another with at least three of its scoring seven on the line stays behind it until they meet again.
- Out-of-state teams at the Southern Showcase are not in the pool, including the Jesuit of New Orleans that finished second to Belen; the Florida boys' times there are leveled through the course reading like any other meet.
- Leon, Chiles' four behind Kiros, Fort Walton Beach, Gulf Breeze and Fleming Island did not race this week, and none of that is held against them.
