Florida Class 1A boys cross country through four weeks: August 21-September 12, 2026
Dominic Ferguson was entered at Nights of Thunder and the varsity race was called off for lightning, so the top of 1A is where it was: Ferguson on his Pace run, Elijah Arterburn on three races, Sean Cunningham and David Barton on August. The new name is Logan Haley of Branford, who won the Buchholz Bobcats Classic out of 203 in 16:17.9 on a course that reads a shade fast, and goes in at fifth. He was listed as a Suwannee returner a week ago; he races for Branford, and a runner who has raced for another school this season is not projected at the old one. Isaiah Manderson of Pensacola Christian was sixth at the Gulf Coast Stampede in 16:35.0 and is first out.
A runner is ranked on his whole season, with the most recent race counting most, and a race he won never counts against him. As always, this is data plus judgment, and we will miss somebody along the way. A (P) next to a name means that runner has not opened yet and we are going on last November. How we sorted everybody out is at the bottom. Races are not won until the kids have run. Enjoy.

1. Dominic Ferguson, Rocky Bayou Christian, Sr.
Was entered at Nights of Thunder and the varsity race was called off for lightning. His season is one run, second at the Pace Patriot Invitational in 16:28.3, 20 seconds behind Bryant Olson on a course that reads slow, worth about 15:49 leveled. Nobody else in 1A has a mark within 20 seconds of it. First, on one race, for a fourth week.
2. Elijah Arterburn, Atlantic Christian, Sr.
Did not race. Three runs that agree with each other: 16:19.0 at Cecil Field, 16:16.9 for second at Pine Crest out of 406, and the Dr. Garcia Bulldog Invite win in 16:23.9 out of 232, priced at the course's conservative reading. Twenty-one seconds behind Ferguson on the season, and the only boy in the class with three rated races.
3. Sean Cunningham, Providence, Sr.
Cecil Field, 16:23.0 for 34th in the elite race, and nothing since August 21. He ran 15:47.8 at state last fall, the fastest returning time in the class by twenty seconds, and three weeks without a start have not moved him. Third on one race that is getting old.
4. David Barton, Maclay, Sr.
Did not race; Maclay ran only its JV at Nights of Thunder. 16:15.0 at Cecil Field and 16:21.1 for 21st at the Horse Park out of 549, the best finish by a 1A boy in that race. Fourth, half a second behind Cunningham on the season.
5. Logan Haley, Branford, Jr.
Won the Buchholz Bobcats Classic out of 203 in 16:17.9, 9.4 seconds ahead of Evan Kirby of Fletcher 4A, in his first race of the season. Buchholz reads a shade fast, so the run is worth about 16:30 leveled, and that puts a new name fifth. He was on last year's Suwannee returner list; he races for Branford, and that is where he is ranked.
6. Eli Domico, Indian Rocks Christian, So.
Did not race. 17:04.0 at Cecil Field, then 16:11.2 for fifth at IMG's Summit Challenge on a course that reads a touch fast, worth about 16:18. The second race is 53 seconds better than the first on the clock, and it is the one that carries him. A sophomore who ran 17:04 at state last fall.
7. Jack Kline, Cornerstone Classical Academy, Jr.
Did not race. 16:33.0 at Cecil Field and 16:23.7 for 23rd at the Horse Park, two races ten seconds apart on the clock and four apart leveled. Seventh, where he was, and the best runner on the fourth-ranked team in the class.
8. Lucian Burns, Marathon, So.
Fourth at King of the Hill on Thursday in 17:14.4 out of 339, worth about 16:40 on a course that reads slow, a week and a half after 16:37.1 for sixth at Pine Crest. Two races within three seconds of each other leveled. Fifth to eighth, not because he ran badly but because Haley arrived above him and Domico and Kline are within two seconds.
9. Benjamin Francis, Highlands Christian, Sr.
Did not race. Fifth at Pine Crest in 16:36.2 and fourth at Dr. Garcia in 16:53.4, which is worth about 16:26 on the conservative reading of that course. A senior who ran 16:35.9 at state last fall and has been right at that number twice.
10. Matteo Kirwan, Circle Christian, So.
16:34.0 for 50th in the Cecil Field elite race on opening night, and Circle Christian has not put him on a starting line since. He ran 17:56.6 at state last fall as a freshman, so that one August race was an 82-second improvement. Tenth on it, and the boys directly behind him have all raced twice or three times.
Just missed
Isaiah Manderson (Pensacola Christian, Sr.) is first out, and he has the best week-four result of anybody near this list: sixth at the Gulf Coast Stampede out of 258 in 16:35.0, worth about 16:25 leveled, after 17:34.7 at Pine Forest and 16:28.4 at the Horse Park. Three races, each better than the last, and a season figure seven seconds behind Kirwan's one. Broderick Olson (Cornerstone Classical Academy, Sr.) is twelfth on 16:36.0 at Cecil and 16:45.4 at the Horse Park. John Curley (St. Edward's, Sr.) was 15th at Astronaut in 17:19.3 and is thirteenth. Conor Kiley (Admiral Farragut, Sr.) was 19th there in 17:25.6. Zamari Blumenberg (Holy Trinity, 8th grade) was 17th at Astronaut in 17:21.2, worth 16:51, the best of his three races, and is fifteenth as an eighth grader.
Lukas Arrojo (True North, So.), tenth a week ago, ran 17:52.5 at King of the Hill and drops out.
How we ranked them
- Courses do not all run the same speed, so we do not compare raw times. Cecil Field is the yardstick; for other meets we use runners who raced both that course and last year's state meet to work out what a time was worth.
- A runner is ranked on his whole season, weighted toward the most recent race: this week counts four times, last week three, week two twice, opening weekend once. A race he won is never allowed to lower that figure.
- Where two ranked runners have raced each other and neither has raced since, the finish orders them. A real result within a few seconds of a projection outranks the projection.
- Runners who have not opened are ranked on last November and marked (P). A missed week is never held against anyone.
- Grades and classes are 2026-27, resolved against the FHSAA classification documents.
- Logan Haley appears on last year's Suwannee returner list and has raced for Branford this season; he is ranked with Branford and not projected at Suwannee.
