Selah Vignier stays first in Class 2A; Claire Chanon moves to second over her Cardinal Gibbons teammate Giuliana Serra, and Tessa Brown of Cardinal Newman comes into the ten.
Florida Class 2A girls cross country through six weeks: August 21-September 26, 2026
Most of the class sat out this weekend or ran with a group, and the top of the list holds. Selah Vignier of West Shore, a junior, is first. Claire Chanon of Cardinal Gibbons, a junior, moves to second, one place above her senior teammate Giuliana Serra. Chanon has beaten Serra both times they have raced, at Pine Crest and at Spanish River, even though Serra has the better season figure.
Sofie Stam of Bolles, a sophomore, is fourth on her eighth place at the adidas championship on September 19. Her Bale-N-Trail run on Saturday was a Bolles group run, and we do not count it. Daniela Hernandez of Carrollton, second a week ago, was ninth at the STU Bobcat Invitational on Saturday and drops out. Tessa Brown of Cardinal Newman, a junior, comes in at tenth.
A runner is ranked on her whole season, with the most recent race counting most, and a race she won never counts against her. This is data plus judgment, and we will miss somebody along the way. How we sorted everybody out is at the bottom.

1. Selah Vignier, West Shore, Jr.
Did not race. Second at the Rockledge Raider Classic on September 18 in 18:36.3, behind Lyla Hallick of Vanguard 3A, and ahead of Esther Dobbin, whom she also beat at Astronaut. A win at Kowboy. First.
2. Claire Chanon, Cardinal Gibbons, Jr.
Did not race. Second in the Spanish River 1A-2A race on September 18 in 19:19.3 out of 301, eleven seconds ahead of Serra and behind Taylor Geraghty of Holy Trinity 1A. Fourth at Pine Crest, ahead of Serra and Gabriella Socarras. Two races, and she has beaten her teammate both times. Third to second.
3. Giuliana Serra, Cardinal Gibbons, Sr.
Did not race. Fifth in the Spanish River 1A-2A race in 19:30.4, ahead of Brown and Julianna Hart, and a win at Markham Park. Her season figure is the second-best in the class; Chanon beat her at Pine Crest and at Spanish River. Third.
4. Sofie Stam, Bolles, So.
Eighth at the adidas championship on September 19 in 18:20.1 out of 241, worth about 19:04 at Cecil Field. Twenty-first at Cecil Field in 19:20.0. Her Bale-N-Trail run on Saturday was a Bolles group run and does not count. Fourth.
5. Esther Dobbin, Cocoa Beach, 8th grade
Did not race. Seventh at Rockledge on September 18 in 19:31.1; sixth at Astronaut, ahead of Hart; sixth at St. Cloud. Vignier has beaten her twice. An eighth grader. Fifth.
6. Holland McKinney, Episcopal, So.
Fourth at the Katie Caples Invitational on September 19 in 18:56.0, ahead of her teammate Stella Krueger. On Saturday she ran in Episcopal's group at Bale-N-Trail, which we do not count. Sixth.
7. Stella Krueger, Episcopal, Jr.
Twelfth at Katie Caples in 19:28.0, behind McKinney; tenth at the Horse Park in 19:05.3, ahead of McKinney and Socarras. The newer race puts McKinney in front. Her Bale-N-Trail run was a group run. Seventh.
8. Lily Ghavami, Berkeley Prep, Jr.
Did not race. Fifth at the North Port Invite on September 19 in 19:03.3 out of 144, and seventh at Whispering Pines. She has not raced anyone else on this list. Eighth.
9. Gabriella Socarras, Carrollton, Sr.
Did not race. Sixth in the Spanish River Race of Champions on September 18 in 19:24.9, and 15th at the Horse Park in 19:25.4, where she beat McKinney and Krueger beat her. Those three form a loop, and the newest meeting settles it: McKinney beat Krueger at Katie Caples. Ninth.
10. Tessa Brown, Cardinal Newman, Jr.
Did not race. Sixth in the Spanish River 1A-2A race on September 18 in 19:35.6, behind Chanon and Serra and ahead of Hart. Second at Dr. Garcia. New to the ten.
Just missed
Daniela Hernandez (Carrollton, Sr.) was ninth at STU on Saturday in 20:22.2, behind Hart and Martinez-Lejarza. She beat Chanon at Pine Crest in August, but Chanon has since beaten Hart and Hart has beaten her. Julianna Hart (Ransom Everglades, Fr.) won the STU Bobcat Invitational on Saturday in 19:27.8, ahead of Eva Martinez-Lejarza (Carrollton, Fr.); Brown beat Hart at Spanish River. Kate Brice (Episcopal, Jr.) was 14th at Katie Caples. Lyla McMillen and Amaris Munya (Montverde Academy) were 22nd and 26th there.
How we ranked them
- Courses do not all run the same speed, so we do not compare raw times. Cecil Field is the yardstick; for other meets we use runners who raced both that course and last year's state meet to work out what a time was worth.
- A runner is ranked on her whole season, weighted toward the most recent race: this week counts six times, last week five, and so on back to opening weekend, which counts once. A race she won is never allowed to lower that figure.
- A head-to-head loss stands until the two runners meet again, whatever either has run elsewhere since. Where results form a loop, the most recent meeting decides. A runner who beat someone ranked above her moves up to that runner's spot.
- New this week: results from opening weekend, Cecil Field on August 21 and Jim Ryun on August 22, no longer order runners. Six weeks in, kids have improved, and a finish from the first weekend of the season should not pin anybody below a runner who beat them in August. Those times still count in the season figure.
- A missed week is never held against anyone.
- Grades and classes are 2026-27, resolved against the FHSAA classification documents.
- Chanon over Serra is the head-to-head: Chanon has won both of their meetings. Serra's season figure is better.
- The Bolles and Episcopal girls ran Bale-N-Trail in groups, and those runs are left out of their figures.
