Girls FLYRA Individual Rankings — Week 1
#1 Colette HEFFERNAN — No Excuses RC (2032) · 10:02.1 state-equivalent (10:44.2 converted at Cecil Field)
Won Cecil Field's combined middle school race outright — first of 275, boys included — and her converted mark puts her twenty-one seconds clear of every other girl in the state. She ran 10:46 at FLYRA state last fall as a sixth grader for Landrum; the improvement curve is not flattening. Two more years of this.
#2 Alice Ilea — Red Sea Running Club (2031) · 10:23.3 state-equivalent (11:05.9 at Jim Ryun)
Won the head-to-head of the weekend, holding off Brianna Motycka by 1.3 seconds at Jim Ryun. Her 10:42 from last year's state meet said top-three returner; the opener confirmed it.
#3 Brianna Motycka — Liberty Pines Academy (2031) · 10:24.6 state-equivalent (11:07.2 at Jim Ryun)
The fastest returning state time in the girls' field (10:24.8 last October) went out and ran exactly that equivalent in her opener, a second and a half behind Ilea. Those two are on a collision course all season.
#4 Amelia FLOOD — No Excuses RC (2031) · 10:40.9 state-equivalent (11:23.0 converted at Cecil Field)
First 8th grader across for No Excuses at Cecil Field and the second leg of a 1-2 club punch that decided the team board before Labor Day.
#5 Emily Del Mazo — WIND Runners (2032) · 10:44.7 state-equivalent (11:27.3 at Jim Ryun)
Third girl at Jim Ryun and the second 7th grader in the top five. Ran 11:07 at state last year for Gulf Coast Runners; she's already twenty-plus seconds better.
#6 Sophia Underwood — Saint Mary Catholic School (2032) · 11:01.2 state-equivalent (P)
The best returning state time that hasn't raced yet — 11:01 as a sixth grader. The projection gives her nothing for the summer, and sixth-to-seventh is usually the biggest jump a middle school girl makes.
#7 Acadia Hassell — Montford Middle School (2031) · 11:04.9 state-equivalent (P)
Montford's front-runner hasn't opened yet, but her squad ran the Wolves Run without her and still put five scorers on the team board. When she steps in, Montford's ceiling moves.
#8 Bailey Eggleston — Hillsborough Harriers (2031) · 11:11.2 state-equivalent (11:53.8 at Jim Ryun)
Fourth girl at Jim Ryun and the Harriers' clear No. 1.
#9 Arielle Gorlovetzky — Boca Warriors Track Club · 11:23.8 state-equivalent (12:06.4 at Jim Ryun)
The only Boca Warrior who has raced — the rest of the No. 2 team on the team board is running on November times.
#10 Madelen FINCH — No Excuses RC (2032) · 11:25.8 state-equivalent (12:07.9 converted at Cecil Field)
Ran 11:03 at state last fall, opened at an 11:25 equivalent — the one kid in this top ten who ranks worse by her opener than by her projection. She's raced, so the raced number stands; her state time says she belongs three spots higher.
