Boys 2A Team Rankings — Week 1

Bolles put its whole varsity in the Cecil Field Elite race, the deepest boys field in Florida, and came out of it with a 56-second spread and seven runners inside the first 25 of the 2A virtual race. Brantley Rigdon 16:04.0, Aidan Chandler 16:28.0, Armaan Sharma 16:44.0, Wyatt Cleek 16:52.0, Vincent Barragan 17:00.0, then Luke Meiners 17:05.0 and Henry Camp 17:18.0 behind them. Nobody in this class is close to that. Only three 2A runners finished ahead of Bolles's second man — Gunther, McKeel's Aidan Alam and Gulliver's Adrian Iziliaev.

Then there is the part that should worry the rest of the class. Aaron Ches did not finish. Ches ran 16:26.1 at the 2025 state meet, twelfth in 2A, the second-fastest returning mark in this entire class — and the Cecil results list him at Bolles, not at Episcopal, where the returner file has him. If that is what it looks like, Bolles scored 45 points in a class where only one other team broke 200, with its best returning runner on the DNF line and out of the count entirely.

Bolles is fourth in Florida across all classes. It is the only 2A team on the state board that got there by racing.

Gulliver did not enter a meet. Not the boys, not a JV squad, nobody. The Raiders are ranked second in this class and eighth in Florida entirely on what five of them ran last November: Iziliaev 16:24.5, Emilio Perez-Garcia 16:44.1, Tyler Keating 16:54.4, Christopher Arana 17:09.2, Nicolas Altaba 17:30.8, with Aston Conrad 17:32.5 right behind as a sixth.

That is a 1:06 spread on projection and three of the top fifteen returning marks in 2A, and it is worth being blunt about what the number does and does not say. Eighty points against Bolles's 45 means Gulliver, running exactly to last November's form, still loses this race by thirty-five. Gulliver almost certainly is not running to last November's form. Nobody in the state has less to show for a strong ranking, and nobody has more upside sitting unmeasured.

The best raced result in 2A behind Bolles, and it came at Holloway Park, where the +38.2 correction is backed by 40 runners. Jeffery Tanner Turley ran 17:28.4 for a converted 16:50.2, eleventh in the class. Braden Workman 17:48.4 (17:10.2), Owen Kalshoven 18:18.5 (17:40.3), William Vricos 18:26.7 (17:48.5), then a 56-second hole to Carson Bews 19:22.8 (18:44.6).

Four runners inside the first 40 and a fifth at 78 is the whole story: Dunedin's front is legitimate and its fifth man is 1:54 back. Close that and the Falcons are arguing with Gulliver instead of trailing it by 109.

Luke LaHaye 16:53.0, Maximus Brown 17:14.0, Logan Milo 17:36.0, Cooper Dixon 17:58.0 in the Cecil Elite race, and then a 56-second gap to Connor Wichmann 18:54.0 — with Tucker Magnotta 18:54.0 and Gavin Faw 18:56.0 dead level with him. Calvary's fifth, sixth and seventh finished within two seconds of each other, which is a pack, just one that starts a minute too late.

Note the school. There are three separate Calvary Christians in this weekend's results — Clearwater, Fort Walton and Fort Lauderdale — and they had to be pulled apart by hand before any of these numbers meant anything. See the method notes.

The fourth-tightest raced squad in this top ten, and the only one of the four with nobody inside the top 30. Joseph Barry 17:34.0 and Ryan Robinson 17:35.0 crossed together at 32nd and 33rd, Nathan Kilgore 17:53.0, Joseph Morgenthal 18:20.0, Rian Naik 18:50.0, Harper Galke 18:51.0 sixth. A 1:16 spread with no individual inside the top 30 is a specific kind of team: it cannot win a race on talent and it will not lose one on a bad fifth man.

Elijah Daly 17:02.8, Lars Manning 17:41.6, Asher Cerveny 18:16.5, Jackson Daly 18:40.5, Isaak Starr 18:48.4, and a sixth in Reagan Reyes 19:25.3 — which is all Cocoa Beach has. Six returning marks, no seventh, no race. A team with exactly six eligible bodies on projection is one injury away from not scoring at all.

Cole Galuski at 16:28.9 is sixth in the class and tenth on our 2A individual board, and then Berkeley falls off a cliff: Rai Mehta 17:52.1, Adrian Nel 18:19.5, Colin Maloney 18:37.8, Brooks Rankin 19:06.0. A 2:37 spread on a projection, and a projection is the friendliest possible version of a team, because everyone is entered at their career-best day. Four points behind Cocoa Beach with a runner 34 seconds better than anyone Cocoa Beach has is the arithmetic of a top-heavy roster.

The best 1-2 in the class after Bolles and the worst 3-5 in the top ten. Aidan Alam 16:18.4 — third in 2A, fourth on our individual board, a rising sophomore off a 16:17.8 state run as a freshman — and Cal Howard 16:56.0 at sixteenth. Then Nolan O'Steen 18:00.4 at 47th, and then it collapses: Andrew McKnight 19:24.9 and Nico Burke 19:26.4 at 110th and 112th.

McKeel has the lowest 5-man average of any team ranked 6th through 10th and it still scores 288, because two runners in the first sixteen do not outrun two runners past 110. The Wildcats did not enter a meet, so there is no evidence either way about whether their four and five moved this summer. It is the single most leveraged unknown in the class.

Grayson Smith and Rick Schultz both 17:39.0, Dylan Patterson 18:34.0, William Bunch 18:41.0, Chase Fallucco 18:46.0, with Joshua Oche 18:46.0 level as a sixth and Teddy Formoso 19:10.0 seventh. A 1:07 spread and five of the first 79 — this is a real team result on the anchor course with nothing borrowed and nothing projected.

Two points behind McKeel with a 3:08-worse front end, which is the same argument as Wolfson's, made two ranks lower.

The tightest five in this class, by a distance. Anthony Barajas 18:14.2, Tyler Schiff 18:19.4, Thomas Kennedy 18:20.9, Dean Sincavage 18:37.7, Cenex Fleurigene, Jr. 18:53.1 — a 38.9-second 1-through-5. Nobody inside the top 50 of the class and nobody outside the top 85 either.

This entry was wrong until yesterday and it is worth saying why. American Heritage (Delray Beach) and American Heritage (Plantation) are different schools in different classes — 2A and 3A — and the ranking code was merging them, which put Plantation's Brandon Koch (18:41.1) into Delray Beach's scoring five. He is out; Fleurigene is in; the average went from 18:26.8 to 18:29.1 and the rank did not move. The number is now the right team's number.

The sixth man is Jett Altier at 22:04.2. There is no depth here at all. If one of the five is hurt, this team is out of the top twenty.
