Girls 2A Individual Rankings — Week 1

#1 Selah Vignier West Shore (Melbourne) (2028)

The 2A state champion, and the only girl in the top three of this class who showed up. Vignier won 2A last November in 18:14.7, the fastest returning mark in the class by twenty-two seconds, and she opened by finishing eighth in the Cecil Field Elite race in 18:55.0 — the deepest girls field anybody in Florida ran into this August.

It is 40 seconds off her state time, which sounds like a step back and is not: the average returner in that race gave back 28.8 seconds, and Vignier was racing Arabella Duffell, Avery Hartley and Katelin Wilcox rather than a 2A field. Eighth in that company in August is a better indicator than the number looks. Her next West Shore teammate finished 21:16, so she also ran the whole thing alone.

She is the clear number one in 2A and the only girl here with both the best returning mark and a 2026 result to stand on.

#2 Kate Brice Episcopal (Jacksonville) (2028) · (P)

Third in 2A at state in 18:36.8, second-fastest returning mark in the class, and no opener. Episcopal's boys ran at Cecil Field. Episcopal's girls did not enter, which is a choice a program can make when it projects first in 2A as a team at 50 points and has nothing to prove in August.

Projected forward at 19:05.6, she sorts second, eight seconds ahead of Hernandez and eleven seconds behind Vignier's actual run. Both of those margins are inside the noise of a projection. The first time Brice and Vignier are in the same race, this list changes.

#3 Daniela Hernandez Carrollton (Miami) (2027) · (P)

Fourth in 2A at state in 18:45.2 and the anchor of the quietest good team in Florida. Carrollton projects second in 2A behind Episcopal on a 19:46.2 returning average, and like Episcopal it did not race.

Hernandez converts to 19:14.0, third on the board. As a senior with the third-best returning mark in her class and no 2026 result, she is the runner on this list with the most to gain and the least evidence — she has been fourth in 2A once and has not yet raced anyone in her final season.

#4 Sofie Stam Bolles (Jacksonville) (2029)

The best August run by anyone in this class besides Vignier. Stam was tenth in 2A at state in 19:02.4 as a freshman and finished 21st in the Cecil Elite race in 19:20.0 — 18 seconds off her state mark on a day the field averaged 28.8 seconds slower. She beat her own projection by eleven seconds.

That is a modest number and a meaningful one, because of who it came against and who it came alongside. Bolles is the best 2A girls team that actually raced this weekend, and Stam was its only runner who ran to form: her teammates finished 20:30, 20:31 and 21:31. She carried the program by herself in the hardest race available.

She is ranked fourth rather than higher because the two projections above her are 15 and 6 seconds faster on the board and neither has been given a chance to fail. If Brice and Hernandez stay home again, that argument gets harder to make.

#5 Graziana Gowdy Episcopal (Jacksonville) (2029) · (P)

Twelfth at the state meet in 19:08.9 as a freshman, sixth-fastest returning mark in 2A, and the second name on the Episcopal list that did not open. Converted to 19:37.7.

A freshman running 19:08.9 at state is the profile that improves most between seasons, and the projection is the one that would most likely be beaten. It also can't be beaten from the sideline.

#6 Lyla McMillen Montverde Academy (2028) · (P)

Sixteenth in 2A at state in 19:15.3. Montverde did not enter a meet on either day, boys or girls — the school that also holds the number one returning boy in this class stayed entirely home.

Converted to 19:44.1. McMillen and teammate Alafair Scelfo are both top-twenty returning marks in 2A and neither has raced.

#7 Gabriella Socarras Carrollton (Miami) (2027) · (P)

Seventeenth in 2A at state in 19:17.3, converting to 19:46.1, and Carrollton's second scorer behind Hernandez. Two seconds separate her board number from McMillen's and four from Molly Taylor's — this stretch of the list is three projections stacked inside six seconds, which is another way of saying it is not really ordered at all yet.

#8 Molly Taylor Berkeley Prep (Tampa) (2028) · (P)

Eighteenth in 2A at state in 19:20.9, converting to 19:49.7, and the fourth program on this list that did not put a girl on a start line. Berkeley Prep's Lily Ghavami is also a top-25 returning mark in the class and also did not run.

#9 Rebecca Lee Edgewood (Merritt Island) (2029)

The biggest move by any 2A girl who raced, and the reason this list is not entirely a projection exercise. Lee was 79th in 2A at state in 20:56.4 as a freshman — 52nd on the returning list, nowhere near the top thirty — and she ran 19:54.0 for 35th in the Cecil Elite race. In November terms that is roughly 19:25, a 91-second jump — the largest by any girl in this class and one of the largest in the state.

She did it in the same race as Vignier and Stam, on the anchor course, with no conversion applied and none needed. It is one race, and August at Cecil rewards a summer of training more than November does. But it is the only hard evidence anybody in this class produced below the top four, and it is worth more than a 19:27 from last fall that nobody has been asked to run again.

Her next Edgewood teammate ran 21:30, so she is another one running alone.

#10 Holland McKinney Episcopal (Jacksonville) (2029) · (P)

Twentieth in 2A at state in 19:27.2, third of the four Episcopal girls in the class top twenty, and converting to 19:56.0. She holds the last ranked spot by six-tenths of a second over Barbarita Jedlicka, which is not a distinction worth defending.

The Episcopal problem is the whole list in miniature: the best 2A girls team in Florida has four of the twenty fastest returning marks in the class, and after opening weekend we know nothing about any of them that we did not know in November.
